First Frosts - Start of Terrorist Season

We always reckoned that Anzac Day or shortly after was the first frosts in the rust belt and cold states. First frosts caused the grey ghosts to hook up their mobile road blocks and hit the highways to the sun. We old school line haul truckies called them "the terrorists" as a play on "tourists" and reflecting the low esteem in which they were held.

In Katherine, the sign of dragonflies is usually the indicator the terrorists are one their way.

The end of easter marks the end of the terrorist season down here. That is when most either hibernate or migrate.

I've heard they spend as little as possible in country towns.

Something is better than nothing.......although most are tight arses.

I was in a free camp the other week.....walk up to the pub and had a couple off beers, the barmaid asked if I was at the free-camp and if I was I could use the pubs hot showers. The free camp only had cold showers and she said and a small thanks they offer to those that put a few dollars over the bar.

You initially think that when you first come to these places, but after a while when you notice caravan parks half empty and the local Woolies posing as the biggest tourist attraction, it's really only the backpackers and tourist busses that stop at the attractions. The parking bays 30kms in either direction get the most attention and really the local economy is more government and defence based, so the terrorists are more a yearly burden than a blessing.
