But there have been times in the past, where I have, with absolute safety. In those days, the Police had to consider that I was driving dangerously, which I wasn't at the time, & my car was easily capable.
But, I'm now older, my reflexes aren't what they used to be, & the regulations say I can't, so I wouldn't,....although my car would be easily capable.
I remember, in the mid eighties, at which time I was involved with HDT, and a member of the Owners Club, bought a VKSS, had the engine modified by HDT, then further by Ian Tate, the engine was built for leisurely touring, I remember that the owner told me that He drove in the N.T. on one occasion, and he did 100MPH, FOR AN HOUR!
    Pickles.
Many moons ago I did a solo run from Perth to Adelaide... 26 hours (4 hour break at Eucla)

160km/h for 3-4 hours at a time (then the vehicle needed fuel)... did that from Norseman to Pt Wakefield. Only one ticket and that was when I forgot to maintain slower speed in Kimba - 110 on the edge of the 60 zone leaving town.

The vehicle was more than capable of doing it comfortably and safely - and once dialled into that speed you find it easy to focus...

    Much less fatigue too...

There is way to much emphasis on speed, when the emphasis should be on dangerous driving - not lying attention, poor habits, poorly maintained vehicles...

    My 2cents....
I'd argue that we have had a generation or two that have been taught how to pass a test rather than seat of pants driving skill. Down here in Victoria if we had a cold snap and ice, snow and black ice it would be a slaughter. Combine that with over powered cheap cars and its a recipe for disaster.
Speed kills - yes but so does imexperience.
The knucklehead pinged in 90 zone- no sympathy.
Most roads are quite simply not suitable for high speeds as they stand. And even if the next stretch of road is suitable for a sprint - the fool who you share the road isnt.
Even autobahns are limited to time and place, ideal weather, traffic conditions, vehicle and ability of driver.
    Education and common sence enforcement.

    Hi,
The majority of drivers would not expect, nor be able to assess the trajectory of a vehicle travelling above the posted limit. Putting them at a serious risk of miscalculation and subsequent misfortune.

    This.

As was posted above, drivers are taught to pass a test, not actually drive a car safely.

We need a licensing system like Germany's, there they are taught and tested in all conditions, including driving on the Autobahn.

Road based cars are absolutely **** to drive on the track.

Real race cars don't have mudguards or roofs. 225Kmh in 90Kmh Zone

Having said that, the only real racing these days takes place on two wheels. 225Kmh in 90Kmh Zone
