I found my perfect ride for sale, but...

Okay, after a few months of trying to deside what Defender I wanted, watching videos, researching etc. speaking to you guys. I started to make a list of my perfect car. I and the whole family will be over seas for a while so I thought I would continue to fine tune what I wanted and what I would want to do with it. Anyway, I was looking in all the adds I could find just to see what price they were at, so as when I return from our overseas travels I could put the word out and start my search.

Well guess what, yes... I have found exactly what’s on my wish list, interstate in QLD.
I have no idea how I can justify telling the wife why we need a new car just before we go and live overseas for 12 months. Just for it to stay in the garage unused till we return. I sent a message to the chap selling to keep it for me or at least pass on my details to the new owner if he does sell it.

    Here‘s hoping...

I'm sure some kind AULRO member would look after it for you.
Drive it regular, test the 4WD capabilities, give it a test run through the Simpson or up the Cape.
And when you get back in 12 months there she be, a little dirty, a few more K, a couple of scratches but, virtually good as new.
I'd even do it myself if you freight or drive it to Doomadgee, I'd even wash it before you get back.
I like doing favours for people so it would be no trouble.

Thanks jonesfam. Yeah may be I could get you to finish off with the rest of the mods I want doing whilst you look after it for me.
If I do get it may be I can drive past your place on my way back home to test it out. I’ve never been up North yet. Wife will be expecting me to drive on the black stuff. 22 hours or two weeks to get back. This would be another explanation to her about why I could only drive off-road because that’s what 4wd’s do. Ha ha!

Overseas for 12 mths? Right hand drive over there? Can you get what you want wherever you are going? Cheaper? Could be a "personal import" candidate to bring it back to Oz with you...

I bought my Defender in Malaysia (with no thought at all of return to Oz at the time). Then as things happened, a few years later, we decided to return to Oz. I hired a company in Oz to handle the personal import process to bring it home with me.

It can be done. We stored our D1 for three years while we lived overseas. Fortunately the BIL had a spare carport. He even drove it to work and back once a week. Only a small number of ants moved in, but I attacked the vehicle with surface spray on a visit home and all was good after that.

Just be aware that after a month around here there will be red dust in every nook & cranny + place you just can't figure out how it got there?

Do come to the Deep, Dark North. But don't be disappointed that they continue to put bloody tar on the bloody roads.
You can drive Doomadgee to Burketown in just over an hour now, used to take up to 3.

I'll still look after it for you, always wanted a Defender, just couldn't get SWMBO to share the attraction.
