The latest, which is basically no findings released as yet, and it is all going to court.

'Devastated' dog owner pushing for change after claims pet died on Spirit of Tasmania crossing - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

Perhaps there is a ventilation problem that only affects large animals, as a 93kg dog is the latest known casualty?

Could it be carbon monoxide poisoning? If vehicles are running for any reason overnight, or if the boats Diesel engine fumes blow back through cargo area under certain conditions?

Fumes blamed as dogs die on ferry

The cages would also be very cramped for a large dog. There may be the option to keep them in your car too, but not sure this would help if air is not safe to breath.

Our dog has been fine on numerous crossings, but we certainly won’t be taking him on the spirit of Tas now until the conditions for pets are improved.

    Hi,
Previous boats had the cages accessible to owners up on a rear deck. Cats weren't all that impressed with the canine companionship though.
    Cheers

So I took the rack off this morning.
Needn't have bothered, there's at least 2.5m clearance.....!!
My son did the same, actually took the rack off the Defender as he couldn't get a high roof space.Had to leave his oztent behind, not happy.

Then on the ferry they put him in the high roof section, and there were heaps of spaces spare.

I have been looking to come back end of May,beginning of June,no high roof spaces left for end of May and all of June

Well I'm booked on the 15th May for my move down to Tassie.

For the last few trips I've been on, there has never been a problem with any of the pets that are put in the cages.

I have noticed that some people are leaving there dogs in their cars instead of putting them in the cages, dont know whether that's a good idea or not.

    cheers

It's too much of a risk taking pets on the Spirit of Tasmania IMO, until they relocate the kennels to an upper deck away from fumes, carbon monoxide, etc. We won't be taking our dog again until this changes (we used to take him at least twice a year). ...It's a much quicker journey for the pet by plane, so we now must travel separately unfortunately, or not take our car.
