Do you use PSI or KPA for tyre pressures

Ha, ha ..................................... many moons ago when I worked in a Telecom exchange that looked after recorded message equipment ie. news, sport, weather. We technicians would check the hourly update to the recordings which were done off site to ensure all was OK. One Saturday night we had a 'strange' weather recording and rang the operators supervisor to politely ask if the recording person may have been 'a bit under the weather'. No was the response. "Then what the hell is a hecto bloody Pascal ?" we enquired "pressure is measured in milli Bars!" No one had told us about a change of unit. It gave the operators a bloody good laugh though. :)

I grew up bilingual in Imperial and metric, but I have always used psi for tyres and have used millibars for atmospheric air pressure since learning to fly in my early twenties - before that it was inches Hg.

I have several air pressure gauges here, of varied provenance, and all (at typical tyre pressures) are within 2psi of each other.

We use PSI all day at work so PSI it is.

Occasionally some parts are in Kpa,or Bar,the conversion is pretty easy,but all our gauges are in PSI.

And we always convert it back to PSI,if one of the others turns up.

On another note,we also always use degrees celsius,never anything else.

BUT KELVIN IS SO MUCH COOLER!!!

Use PSI for tyres, but also work with KPA and Bar as well with compressors. Interestingly most customers use Bar as well for pressure when ordering a machine, but specify volume in CFM - go figure...

I've used PSI for over seventy years. Why should I change?
I also us cycles per second instead of Herz and foot/pounds instead of Newtons.

PSI for me too.

But just to add to the confusion ....................

there's 28.35 grams of butter in an ounce of butter, but

there's 31.1 grams of gold in an ounce of gold. :angel:

It just goes to show that Gold is heavier than Butter [bigwhistle][bigrolf][bigrolf]

I use psi as this is what I understand but use bar when wearing breathing apparatus I also prefer horse power over kilowatts and work my fuel average out in miles per gallon instead of litres per 100ks.[smilebigeye]

I generally use PSI but my new compressor only supplies metric air [bigsmile]
