I attempted to be a donate many years ago. Went twice and had a bad reaction both times so not allowed back. Having lived in Europe for a couple of decades now would be off the list anyway.

Not taking blood from people who have lived in Europe is actually good science as there are problems with disease here that go beyond mad cow that are behind it. Europe (not just the U.K.) has to import a lot of blood products as they cannot use local supplies for this reason.

Dropped in for a plasma donation today and they asked if I could switch and do whole blood as there forecasting isn’t liking good for the festive season, very low stocks

Big changes st the Brisbane CBD blood bank

    - no more forms to complete, it’s done on a tablet, two days in and they seemed to have it fairly sorted
    - no longer get asked if I’m pregnant, the tablet has that sorted
    - no more plastic disposable cups, re-usable cups in place
    - no more water bottles, except if you on the chair donating plasma, must remember to take a bottle from now on

Next donation is no. 50, it’ll be plasma but have to wait four weeks as I donated blood. Hopefully get my oldest to do his 3rd and the daughter her 1st.

Went in today for my fortnightly plasma donation and like a previous poster was handed a tablet to do the usual questionaire.
All seemed to operate smoothly and it remains to be seen if this old bugger can remember what to do next time around

It was I think, my 175th donation or thereabouts.

They sure do. And sausage rolls, cheese and biscuits, cake, oversize biscuits etc. It's a great smoko break.

I remember going to Tamworth Hospital to donate first time in the early 90's and having a milkshake and thinking how good it was.

I started in 1981 in Sutherland and we only got a cup of tea then and the most uncomfortable stretchers. Things have come along nicely.

    Interesting donation today.....

Was one my way to the blood bank, and received a call from the centre saying they couldn’t start anymore plasma donations as the temperature on the donation floor was too high.

They were still accepting/starting whole blood donations.

    Interesting eh

I decline donating whole blood but promised them I would give plasma by the end of the week which they were happy with

    Please, no climate warning comments.......
