    I do. Out on the road the vast majority of drivers are excellent and give you good clearance, its just the very odd one that tries to see how close they can get to hitting you without actually hitting you. I don't see riders starting these threads or what they think the law "should be' as opposed to what it is..

    Agree.......nearly all drivers are considerate

    I always like it when I catch up to the unhappy driver, a good percentage of the time they not the fittest looking people, smokers, covered in tats, shoveling fast food into there mouths.

    With the notable exception of drivers of tradies utes and lifted 4WD's on muddies. If I see/hear one of those coming up behind me I start to look for some comfortable verge to escape to.

    Boom, yes! That is exactly my experience also! If someone is trying to skim you, it is mostly this!

    A couple of questions if I may ;
    When and why did riding a bike suddenly become dangerous and or in fashionable?
    When did most people give up on riding ?
    It seems if googled , that schemes such as registration, and number plates have more drawbacks than benefits. If I read a newspaper from the city of my origin , there is a majority of articles that are for cycling , in all aspects, commuting to work or school , pleasure etc.

    Not that you'll know, but if I came uo behind you in my work Hilux you wouldn't need an out, I'd slow down and give you plenty of room, I even indicate to change lanes to go around cyclists. I seem to be in minority I agree when it comes to these sort of vehicles though. Stay safe. 👍

    Aah, and that's the difference between a rough old tradies ute driven by a greasy haired punk and a tight modern ute with the load secured properly, and driven sensibly. The racket made by a poorly secured load of tools, planks, wheelbarrows, ladders etc is amplified by the rate at which these utes are driven. Good ears are as much an asset when cycling as a good rear vision mirror.

    I think there should be a strong push to get everyone back riding horses everywhere, after all they were around first as a mode of transport and that's what gave us most of the roads in the first place. When the roads are all clogged up with those animals let's hear the screams of fury from motorists.

    Why is this thread still going? I thought they had found that many of the signatures on the petition in question were fake and recorded by bots.

    Petition for new rules applying to cyclists

    Hmmm, don’t have room for horses any more, and I never did like falling off them too much which would hurt a lot more these days with my aged bones. Our old ex racehorse was over 16 hands - he had a habit of dumping me on the ground every so often ‘just because.’ It was a long way to fall. He’d boot me off with zero warning then turn around and come back and lean down and nudge me to make sure I wasn’t dead - such a sweet animal.Petition for new rules applying to cyclists

    We had a horse as kids, it was soon sold and replaced with more horse power in the form of a Yamaha .
    They scare me as they have a mind of their own.

    Back to topic, i always give cyclists space but it has to work both ways. The idiots that ride 2/3 across and wont move inline or have a blatant disregard for the road rules ruin it for other law abiding cyclists.
