Physically can't do digging and chopping so that is out of the question for me.
Going to get a stump grinder, I have only found 1 hire place that hires a heavy duty model, found out from Homsestar today due to darwinians hurting them selves hire companies are no longer hiring these out.

Don't go cheap with the stump grinder. Yesterday I spent many hours behind one from our local place. I had 11 HUGE pine trees around our carport.

Pulling out Tree stumps with a 4WD OKA-p1190173.jpg

I had them felled in two stages, then cut up all the pine, made many huge bonfires with the branches ... and have a stack of useless pine for burning stacked along the shed.

    now pine is soft.

I hired this sucker from the local hire place. 32hp engine joystick control... it worked HARD ... and still took me a whole day to do all of the stump. Don't even dream of hiring a "manual" one where you have to pivot the thing yourself. They have only one of these ( a quality Red Roo unit) ... and several of the big tracked b@stards. They reckon everyone hires the smaller one once ..... and never again. It was $398 for a days hire, and I got 16 stumps around the yard out. The pine stumps were at least the size of yours. The biggest took me an hour. They are quite a bit larger at ground level than they are at the cut. So think 1.5metres in your case. I cut down as far the the stump grinder would dig.

You will be left with a lot of ground up dirt/ground wood left over. I just levelled it all around the area with the blade on the back of the tractor.

Our local place is really expensive. The only alternative is to drive to geelong to pick one up ... or possibly melbourne .... $240 a weekend is a bargain. Bring plenty of petrol too. I probably used 40litres of petrol!

No-one else in town hired a stump grinder of any type. They said most of the tree specialists in town hire there equipment. They just line up jobs, then hire it for a day and go do separate jobs all over town with it.

What about a contractor with a larger model. Something with a cutting disc of a a metre or more with get through it and down deep enough in a short time.

For just one stump this will probably work out cheaper. They measure the stump from the widest point, and charge $x.xx per cm ........................... In my case with 16stumps I would have been looking at many thousands of $$$$!

Now that would be the Fun way to do the job
Around here we just poison the stump with spray seed and burn it out with a bonfire the next year.

    Cheers
Tell him to hire a contractor with a 20 tonne (D6 size) dozer with ripper. This will make short work of the job and probably be cheapest solution.
