Yep, the bucket is not very efficient. He is making some sort of tooth or spike to go in place of the bucket.
The idea is that he bought 2 blocks of about 14 acres and will clear a space and build/landscape on the best one, then contract clear for others in the area, and there lots of those.
His second block, and it's clearing, is a potential retirement fund.
It is not what I would want to do at that stage in life.

I would have thought the easiest and cheapest option would be to float a huge 'dozer in ... have it rip all the stumps out ................ Then use your little tractor over the next few years to drag all the stumps to a spot to burn ............ then level the paddocks with the tractor ......... Maybe by ripping them, then dragging a smudge bar over them.Quote:

Some time ago around 2000 0r 2001 we had a mature size Pacific pine taken down. They got mill logs from the branches. They brought in a tracked stump grinder and got rid of the stump.Reminded me of a old ransom tractor. Dad used to use explosives for the bigger stumps when he could. When he could find a anchor point greater than the stump he would use the blitz he had . With four pulley blocks set up it could pull over a hundred tonnes. Did on one occasion find a tree that was not up to the task of being a anchor and had to straighten the cab out. As posted don`t go small on the stump grinder. There are people that is all they do.

Also the shreddings are good mulch and the combination of shreddings and dirt is a good beginning for garden soil. Sand and a top dress is less likely to subside.
I rang the hire company to book it , the rate was $240 for a day, but weekends they are not open on Sunday so you get to keep it for Sunday also, but Monday is a holiday so don't have to return it until Tues morning now, so got 3 days hire for $240. I have a few stumps to do in the back yard. When I rang them they said "your the land rover parts guy, it's booked see you Saturday morning.[thumbsupbig]Quote:
