Is it possible that some LR owners dont rotate their tyres because they have constant 4wd, and not much power, braking, steering lock, or tendency towards cornering speed? Just a bit perplexed.
I guess if you ensure you have a decent wheel alignment, you maintain appropriate tyre pressures, dont have suspension quirks, and have constant 4wd, you are a substantial step towards not needing to rotate tyres.

What nobody seems to be acknowledging is that by 50% wear a tyre for offroad use is nigh on useless... I buy tyres to perform, not to last. So my spare stays where it is until the new rubber is needed (2-3 years) and then it goes on the RHR and a new spare goes on the back.
If for whatever reason the rubber isn’t worn enough to justify replacement, come 5 years it goes in the bin regardless.
That concept falls apart when you consider a D4 isn’t lacking power, brakes or steering lock and will corner quite well for its mass.Quote:

On many occasions the spare is only used to get to where you can either repair or replace the flat/buggered tyre So I imagine you could get away with using a old tyre as a spare in the City or Major town.Quote:

You can always "Wing It" and hope for the best using an old tyre as a spare or not carry an extra spare But I prefer not to.
Buying a new tyre, letting it sit for years, possibly in the sun, then using it, means you are stuck buying the same size, brand and type of tyre again, if they are still available, and are mixing them with an old, hardened tyre. You will be stuck with this size and model tyre again next time, so it probably wont still be available, and even if it is it will be old technology.Quote:

I do enough that the tyres are gone in 2 years for the next set.. benefit of fitting the crossover with D4 wheels is that I can send them there at 50% tread and finish them off to around 30% [emoji6]. The crossover currently has a never roaded spare which will move onto the axle with the D4 spare shortly...
I live in the Pilbara and I wouldnt travel anywhere without a second spare. Its just piece of mind for me - especially when your in a remote area with little traffic for any assistance if required. Yes I carry tyre plugs and its normally the first option I look at, but they cannot fix all tyres.
I also rotate through all 6 of my tyres (Im not a fan of the idea of throwing away an unused spare because of its age).
