im no professional full time Truckee by a long shot. More of a part time steerer . I have just been wondering what people wanted him to do , jamb on the brakes and let everyone past as soon as he seen the double lines. ? He started to overtake in the correct spot but by the time he wound it up he ran out of legal lane. Tell me that don't happen on just about every main road in every state and Territory in the country by car van and truck.

my last time driving I was driving a quad and reckon I must have broken a million road rules because the last trailer crossed double lines heaps of times. All I can say is before you criticise jump in the seat and have a try , then fill your boots with as much criticism as you like.

And i see this sort of thing every day,not just trucks, but cars, motorcycles, and cyclists.

In fact, trucks and buses would be in the minority, where cars, motorcyclists, and cyclists are the main offenders, particularly the last two.

Many have a complete disregard for road rules.

if he/she couldnt complete the overtake by the double lines, then he/she didnt start in the correct spot or should not of attempted the overtake.

To be fair I can't remember seeing a truck doing anything as stupid as this But I have seen cars and bikes do this sort of thing countless times.
In my experience the truckies ARE "Professional" drivers and it is clowns that do this sort of thing that people tend to remember and forget about the other 99.99% of drivers that wouldn't dream of doing this stuff.

Agree 100% eevo - certainly not saying the truckie was in the right.... BUT..We weren't there, so hard to comment on the circumstances.

Was he only going to overtake the caravan and in doing so the van panicked and sped up closing the gap ?
Did the roadtrain see that happen and call him thru ?
Did the roadtrain back off and let him thru, just because you cant see any brake lights doesn't mean he isn't slowing down, pretty easy to drop 20-30km/h by just taking the foot off the loud pedal.
Was there a few cars behind the Bdouble when he pulled out and they closed up the gap meaning he would have needed to stop almost dead on the wrong side of the road ?

At the end of the day he/she got it wrong , wont be the first wont be the last ,but plenty of armchair drivers , including myself , assuming we know the circumstances and passing judgement.

As someone said earlier, it could have even been you that said it , nothing to see here move on..

    Cheers Ean

we all get it wrong from time to time. but sometimes getting it wrong has fatal consequences. so why take the risk?
