Where should I go this long weekend? Big Desert? High Country? Grampians??

Trying to decide whether or not to go away for a night or two this long weekend before the tracks close for the winter and wanted to get thoughts. Me and a mate who love a bit of an adventure, don't mind getting cold, and would even love a bit of snow but maybe not to camp in if we went high country.

High Country - really wanted to give Dargo High Plains Road a shot but not sure if I should just wait till it opens up again and stay away from the cold.

Big Desert (or Little Desert, or both) - never been wanted to go for a while and seems like an interesting trip and bit of desert driving experience.

Grampians - well it's just beautiful out there, don't know much about it though but I'm sure it'd be a great trip.

Keeping it simple, might go on some walks or just chill out around a fire, pretty sure the weather is meant to be okay too but who knows.

What do y'all reckon for a last minute trip (not that I like going away when the rest of the state is also away but oh well, hopefully the weather will keep a few of them indoors)

...I'm leaning towards Big Desert...just because I want to go!

We've been tossing up if we go away too, but the crowds on long weekends put me off. Based on that alone, I'd steer clear of the Grampians - will be packed. I'd head to Big Desert myself. 👍

Yeah that's what I was thinking, in fact I was even thinking of just postponing a week and taking my own long weekend because I can't stand the crowds so much haha

Big Desert should be a little harder to get to than the Grampians at least.

Not so much Big Desert, but more so the Murray Sunset NP
4(and a bit)hr drive to Ouyen, head west towards Underbool(->Adelaide) along the Mallee hwy.
Past Underbool and head north towards the Pink lakes area.
North of there is all bigger desert all the way to Mildura.
If you then head east, across the Calder Hwy and into more dessert(y) area you then end up in what feels like a bit of a tropical oasis at the Murray R!

Tons of camping .. lots of sand to play in and around.

Weather is usually around the high teens-low 20's.

Yeah nice through there and plenty of places to camp away from the masses. Where should I go this long weekend? Big Desert? High Country? Grampians??

I'm planning on camping up on the Murray Sat/Sun, around Echuca... I've been told by some locals that it won't be too busy...

Spoke to 2 people at work today, and both of them are going to... Echuca! Lol - should be fine though.

Its a wonder NSW havent complained that the public holidays aren't aligned......they still bleat every year about daylight saving.

I'm actually an AFL follower but it's good to watch this interstate rivallry as 2 teams run towards each other then throw the ball away.
