    Diabetes and driving

Been driving a while with diabetes and was unaware that the Driver's licencing authorities must be notified by law of your condition and the onus is on you.
When I was in hospital they mentioned some form to fill out. they said let my endocrinologist organise it. I mentioned this form to my now EX endo and his reply was ,"yes i forgot to mentioned that to you".
So I get the form and fill it out and submit it to Vic roads. Today I get a letter from Vic Roads medical review saying unless I get some medical report filled out by my doctor etc and have submitted by the 6th July to the Vic roads medical review team then they may suspend my driver's licence for my car and boat. Then they may still decide on more specialist reports if they see the need.
I am required by law to notify them to be covered by TAC etc.
I know many out there with diabetes that haven't notified their states licencing authorities, flying below the radar is ok until you have an accident or something.
There are conditions to driving, Blood sugar must be above 5, duration no more than 2 hours a stint I believe.

been doing my annual check for years, very simple medical really. If you use the same gp all the time you havea good medical record in one spot.

Just got back form the optometrist, eyes are all clear, no damage. Got a letter from him whilst I was there to back it up.

Diabetic neuropathy- not what I'd want behind the wheel.
An elderly neighbour had similar, resulting in glacial reaction times... swiped one of our cars, and ultimately reversed thru the brick fence at speed.

I know a guy that drove when he had a documented medical condition, and had license confiscated.

Did 5 years after causing a fatal...

Not long enough in my opinion.

A rep from one off our suppliers had an episode.....he managed to pull over safely in the centre median strip of a hi-way. three hours later some pulled over and checked o him, he was unconscious. Pretty sure he lost part of his foot.

He was back driving, I wasn’t aware there is a requirement to notify.
