    Radio wire dog fence recommendations

    We've got one of our daughter's sheepdogs coming to stay with us. George. He's used to vast acreage and our little block doesn't amount to a dog bed as far as he's concerned. He sails over the fences and goes......anywhere. we've decided to try to contain him with one of these new fangled radio fences. Does anyone have recommendations, or warnings for us? The perimeter fence is between 250 and 300 metres long.
    George got nutted today, so he's getting special treatment tonight.

    If you want to "Zap" your dog every time it strays then go for it, Personally I would just tie the dog up on a "Run" or take it for regular exercise.
    It's Not a great idea keeping a working dog in the burbs as it's not fair on the dog and they can be a PITA because they get bored easily and wreak the yard and are always wandering off if they can.

    One of our Border collies learnt, after a few days, that by taking the zap for a while, the collar thingy turned off. She'd stand there shuddering for around 45 secs and then head down to the dam for a swim

    Could try an Aulro Courier Service for you as I've still got the apparatus in one of the shreds somewhere .

    Some of the collars give a shot of Citronella instead of zap em.
    That is a bit more humane methinks.

    It's not the burbs, it's acres, and the thing gives audible warning which stops the dog getting a zap. I don't want to tie him up in the house paddock, I want him to be free in it , but not get out. And he won't be jailed in there all the time, he'll be able to come to work with me and work the sheep.

    Don, it is with much regret that I have to inform you that our dog electric barrier thingy appears to have been swallowed up by the black hole that apparently exits in my bottom shed.
    I even got the missus to have a " Proper Look", if you know what I mean, but to no avail, sorry.

    We have a pair of hyperactive German shorthair pointers
    When they had a little holiday at friends with chickens their bird dog roots shone through and our friends got a few chicken dinners thanks to the dogs - eeeek

    Next holiday I installed a Sportdog SDF100A with two collars
    ($400 plus)

    Had used sportdog collar for bark control to good effect so went with them again.

    Install quick an easy, can adjust warning perimeter.
    Collar buzzes when about 2m from perimeter and zaps when about a metre.

    Ran the wire around the chicken coop and run area.

    Both dogs got a single zap and then spent a month at friends house and stayed well away from the chickens!!!

    I zapped my forearm to see what I’d be inflicting - sure it didn’t tickle but can also see how it would change behaviour. A smart dog will learn quick that avoid the buzzing to avoid the zap
