    What’s this - Big Brother?

    Hi All,

    Can anybody tell me what this is? I was installed on a “Loading Zone” pole and also on a “No Standing Pole” outside work this week.

    I have also noticed these pop-up in other areas around Melbourne over the last few weeks.

    It does not appear to have a camera in it.

    It appears to have an aerial on it.

    It doesn’t have any wires connected - for example, a traffic counting device..

    Any ideas?

    I doubt that it's a traffic counter, the tubes across the road are still a pretty stable device as they are quite accurate.
    Nobody cares about pedestrian traffic.
    It could be a radio survey, trying to work out signal strength problems from a local mobile tower.
    I'm voting that it's a homing station for the Cylons

    There are systems out there that monitor traffic congestion using vehicle Bluetooth signatures. This could be a monitoring point, is it a known traffic rat run route?

    I cant be bothered turning my phone bluetooth on and ensuring it pairs. I mostly text these days. I thinking texting is a common trend but not sure about car bluetooth.

    Open one up and have a good look around inside. If nothing else, you should soon find out which organisation sends someone out to fix it.

    Yes, its a side street that runs between 2 busy roads being Smith St Collingwood and Hoddle St.
