I can offer some input here, I have covered over 60000klm since I moved here and 1/3 of that would be on mine sites. I have BFG All Terrains and have not had one puncture (touch wood). I will be looking at them for the next set of tyres for the Disco. our workshop use the mud terrains and ont of 4 vehilces I have only seen one puncture. As for performance, well I havent been bogged in the mud (Mines can be great fun in the wet) and on the road I have no dramas https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

i've run scorpions on my 130 defender for a couple of yrs as a road tyre and little off road use,mainly only when we go camping and such

Most of the top name tyres are OK and some of the lesser name ones are also OK. I think a lot has to do with the best price you can get at the time. That is mainly the reason I bought Cooper STT's this time as they were $50 a tyre cheaper than BFG MT's. Last time BFG MT's were cheaper. They are a much of a muchness, with marginal performance gains in certain applications. The Coopers are wearing well apart from staking one through the tread with a bolt. Their warranty is not worth squat and is only really equivalent to statuatory warranties as implied by the trade practices act anyway. Over the years I have used different tyres or had friends use different tyres and some suit certain cars better than others. I would use any of the following : BFG AT or MT, Cooper STT, Goodyear Wranglers, Pirelli Scorpions, Firestones (do not make the AXT anymore pity, good for 100,000kms) and even quite a few of the lower buget tyres depending on finances. Baja Claws, Centipedes etc would be the ultimate should budgets allow, but won't for most of us.
The most important consideration is availability of replacement tyres Australia wide. Most manufacturers have a wide range of sizes, but many are not accessible easily. Most places I have spoken too do not stock the 235/80 or 85/16's and must be ordered in. Makes it a drama for the fender. 18", 19", 20" and 21" is nothing short of a trial.
Gone are the days of everyone running 31 10R15's.

Opinions on tyres are like A$$holes, everyone has one. And usually delivered by said person confirming the above.
What suits you or someone else won't suit another. Be honest with yourself about what you want the tyre for, then buy the tyre most suited to your needs. At the price to suit your $$.

I wanted an all-round AT which would be fine on sealed roads and could handle a bit of weekend fun and touring and towing our camper. I went for BFG ATs and have no complaints at all. Unfortunately they haven't had much use in the last year as I'm working OS, but before that they were fine.
Only thing I know about Pirelli Scorpions is they're very popular in Europe and got a good rating in 4 x 4 Monthly's last tyre comparison. I got the impression they would be better on road than off.

Really happy with the Goodyear MTRs, have not noticed any problems with them in mud, and we get a bit of that around here. Good all rounder i think.
