However Australias most Dangerous Snake is the Eastern Brown due to its nervous disposition and its occurrence in heavily populated areas.The majority of Aus. snakes belong to the family Elapidae and are venemous but only a small majority are lethal to man.Snake bite accounts for about 2 fatalities a year in Australia, mostly ppl who handle dangerous snakes regularly or ****ed yobbos showing off and getting bitten and not taking the bite seriously.More ppl die from bee stings then snakebite and a hell of a lot more from horse accidents. You could spend your whole life in the bush and you would be more likely to be struck by lightning then be bitten by a snake.All snakes are protected in all states and it is an offence to deliberately kill them unless they are threatening life.(same as crocs)
No snake is aggressive and bites occur as a flight response on the animals behalf, the reason they have venom is not to poison ppl but to aid in the capture and digestion of their prey.They can also control venom output, and you can be bitten and not actually envenomated.Worst case scenario if you were bitten by an Inland Taipan whilst out wandering around Windorah and applied the Pressure Imobilisation technique, you could sit there for 8-10 hours before you even showed symptoms of being envenomated.Snake danger is overated in this country and the best thing you can do is know first aid and know a bit about the species in your area so you can identify what actually bit you.There is plenty of literature out there on snake identification and , yes, if I do say so myself, I am somewhat of an expert in this field, but I know nothing about LR mechanicals. https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

i ran one over not all that long ago.....was on the road and couldnt be seen
from the dust thrown up from the cars in front and the fact i wasnt wearing my glasses.....
by the time i realised it was too late to swerve(dirt road and too much speed)
and too close to stop in time......but i did try.....</span>
Fair enuff, accidents happen, but what ****s me is when I see someone deliberately swerve into the other lane to run over a 4 metre python just for the hell of it. :evil: :evil:
Snakes are beautiful things. 8) I also quite like most spiders, although I'm not sold on trapdoors :? .

Latest Australian Geographic has an article on snake bite.
Most dangerous snakes in Australia, based on distribution, behaviour and venom are:-
1. Taipan - Oxyuranus scutellatus
2. Tiger snake - Notechis ater, N.scutatus
3. Brown snake - Pseudonaja affinis, P. nuchalis, P textilis
4. Common Death Adder - Acanthopis antarcticus
There are about 3,000 snakebites a year in Australia, about 2-300 requiring antivenom treatment (presumably the rest are either non-venomous snakes or no venom was injected, for example because the bite was through clothing) and one or two deaths. Compare this with deaths from road accidents, smoking, alcohol, drugs or even lightning strikes, and it puts the risk in perspective.
