Snake safety is actually very simple:

    <span style="font-size:12pt;line-height:100%">LEAVE THEM ALONE!</span>

One the kids found sleeping out at a place called Burra Rocks. You can see by the bulge it had not long eaten. The pic does not do it justice. The bulge could easily be seen as a baby duck shape. Lots of baby ducks around in the water at this time.

i think it depends on what your sources are as to which snake is the most venomous...

last year i went to the maitland 4wd show and watched one of those reptile blokes do a demo of various snakes, and he reckoned the inland taipan (often confused with the brown) is the most venomous, having enough venom in one bite to kill 100 men...

the inland taipan is commonly found around SE Northern territory and SW Queensland.

    cheers,
    bryce

I believe that the inland Taipan is the most venomous snake in Australia likely to bite you. The Fierce snake venom is alledgedlly much more potent, but it is highly unlikely to see a bite from one of these. Fierce snake bites are rarely recorded and the snake rarely even seen.

Hey this is my 1000th post.

There are several separate, but related things to consider.

    1. How potent the venom is - size of fatal dose.
    2. How efficient the injection mechanism is - things like position of fangs, grooved or hollow fangs, dose of venom injected per bite.
    3. How aggressive is the snake? (and this varies from time to time and place to place, even for the same snake)
    4. How easy is it to spot the snake? Depends on habitat, colouring etc.

But the bottom line is that most Australian snakes are venemous and almost all of these are potentially deadly. And everywhere in Australia deadly snakes are relatively common.

Follow the advice given above - be noisy when in the bush, and NEVER put your hands under things or in places where you can't see when in the bush or the backyard. Add to this, if in scrub where you can't see where you are putting your feet, wear boots and long trousers or high boots or leggings.

As to the most venomous snake.

1- The coral Sea Snake is the most venomous snake in the world

2- The Fierce snake also called small scaled snake, inland taipan, western taipan (Oxyuranus microlepidotus), are all the same creature. The venom is the same toxic rating as the Coral Sea Snake. The Fierce Snake, Inland Tiapan and the Small Scaled Snake etc often get confused with other snakes especially in winter as they change colour and turn a darkish brown. but if you look at their head it is always nearly black, this is how you can tell them apart. Their head is black so as they can heat up their body by just sticking their head out of the hole.

(I am NOT an expert on snakes but remember this information when I saw a show not so long ago, and the bloke there was saying this)

    Hope this helps

This friendly little feller came to visit us on Fraser Island.

We're pretty sure it was a tree python (harmless) but I wasn't getting any closer to find out.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".
