there was an expression of interest put out for tassie which got me and megs talking, due to megs's work at this stage we are committed to touring from about the 21 Dec til the 19th Jan, if these dates suit others that will be in the area than we will hook up with them wheather its for a one day or two days or a week.

I'm not going to get into the Maree/Yamba debate short of saying that I understood that Marree was the go.

Anyone going to Yamba in early July should consider that this little coastal fishing village has very limited accommodation and that much of it is taken by those who visit every year, you will be visiting Yamba in the school holidays (NSW). It will be too cold to go surfing and unless you bring a boat your fishing will be limited to a few scant perches along an unfriendly river.

By road, Iluka is a 30 minute drive, but by boat it's only a half a k, it is tiny and has only a caravan park and maybe a motel that has ten rooms, but don't quote me on that.

Off road adventures are also limited in the immediate area and the few access points are difficult to find (you'll need a local) and are very difficult to egress. Bring your winches if you can find these points, the be prepared to clunk along rough beaches, some are low tide only.
Long term locals in all forms of 4wds get stuck, even alocal copper has admittedto beng caught in a Patrol. The beaches in winter are short, loamy and tidal and not much fun...and it blows like buggery, I have some pics from a day about July last year..bright sunny day on the beach, with my gang in parkas....

Rover Park is 2.5 hrs wnw of Yamba and being school hols, will probably be busy, due to the influx of those from southern QLD. (At this time of the year it will also be very very cold).

I live near Yamba, it's one hour south, and visit (this region) occasionally for work.

Nice spot if your into family summer fishing, boating etc.

Yamba tourism will probably shoot me for this, but a bit of local knowledge may help you with your July school holidays....

    cheers, GQ
