RE: Citroen DS Safari: Spotted - Page 1 - General Gassing - PistonHeads
As you are having a bit of a Poo Week - here is something to hopefully make you cheerier .
Its like a Spaceship , Soooooo Foreign and Awesome .
Hope the day improves .
D4 MY16 TDV6 - Cambo towing magic, Traxide Batteries, X Lifter, GAP ID Tool, Snorkel, Mitch Hitch, Clearview Mirrors, F&R Dashcams, CB
RRC MY95 LSE Vogue Softdash "Bessie" with MY99 TD5 and 4HP24 transplants
SADLY SOLD MY04 D2a TD5 auto and MY10 D4 2.7 both with lots of goodies
RHD too.... That's a seriously nice car.... it also has the hydraulic gearchange (very rare, 20+ years ago, you avoided it ... Now its a HUGE selling point). I'm driving a 1963 Citroen "D" today. Its bloody amazing, they fixed all the corrugations, pot holes and bumps down the fire trails to work. Last week it was rough as buggery driving through there in the Rangie ..... Today in the old Citroen .... it's bloody dead smooth
I think boss women will be most unimpressed when she see's all the dirt from the gravels roads down the side of the old DS
i think I'm going to need more cars ..... 1/2 dozen kangoroos nearly took the old Citroen out driving it to work this morning .... I couldn't bloody believe it when they appeared out of the trees infront of me ( I'm going to run out of cars that drive if this **** keeps up ). I'll need to check the tyres when I get home. I probably damaged them locking up everything so aggressively in gravel. Old Michelin X's have very soft, fragile sidewalls.
Why is everything trying to hurt my precious ****boxes lately

Shane L.

I drove one of these for years (poverty pack ID though, but Australian assembled). One point about the article - the Traction Avant was introduced in 1934, not 1938.

Yes, thats the one. Its a poverty pack ID19 built down in Heidleburg in melbourne. I figured no-one would know what it is though .... So I called it a DS. I also have an "ugly pink" 1963 ID19 .... aussie built ... mostly wearing the original paint it left the factory with (its very ugly). I've converted it to use LHM and fitted a power steering rack so boss women can drive it if she ever needs too.
I have a DS21 "Injection Electronique" .... ( aka: fuel injected ) as well. Oneday I will restore and re-assemble that. I'll pencil that in for when I'm retired (and hopefully finally have some funds to spend on cars).

My brother bought the ID Safari in 1966, it was a 1961 model. Originally dark grey, he repainted it white and fitted power steering. I took it over when he went overseas in 1971, and replaced it with a DSpeciale sedan in 1979, passing the ID onto my sister, as hers was getting very battered. The DSpeciale I sold last year, or the year before, I can't remember without looking it up.

If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.
When I was touring France in 1973 with my brother in his Dyane, we spotted a Safari with what looked like an entire bedroom suite tied precariously on the roof - double bed, wardrobe and dressing table. We followed it for some kilometres - at a safe distance, as it looked to be about to lose the lot!
