Hey all,
I've post this topic on the 4WD Monthly forums and was told to post it here too.
I'm looking into getting a Discovery Series 2 TD5 as my first 4WD. It is the best for what i want to do with it [moderate touring in comfort].
Is there anything i should be looking for when buying these. Any specific problems that anyone else has had or are there any little hints or tips when checking these out.
Any help would be greatly appriciated
Cheers
CaptJimmy

Service history is a start from memory there was 2 recalls on the early models 99 was the first model, only minor faults, try and get 2000 on if you can.
They are a pretty reliable 4b we've had no problems in 110,000ks and i drive mine pretty hard.

Service history is most important.

Service history.
I would look for one with a centre diff lock, not really essential if you're only touring but any more than moderate off-roading and it will help.
Service history.
As people have said, try to get one as recent as possible, all the problems tend to be pretty much sorted towards the end of a model run.

Oh, and yeah.....service history.![]()
best 4x4xfar!
I've had tojo's and patrols..... my disco2 eats them for comfort. on and off road. Never had any probs but I DO keep up the service.

Good choice![]()
As others have suggested look for one with a centre diff lock that you can at least activate. 2003 on the final Series 2 Discos LR put them back in as standard.
checking the service record is always good. My 2003 TD5 has had 2 minor recalls so if you get something within that date range you might want to check that they've been done.

As above plus I'd recommend the auto rather than a manual, but there aren't many manuals around anyway I don't think.
I'd also add that you're probably better off with the TD5 than the V8, ONLY because of the economy.
