In case anyone missed it, the article says that the New Defender will only arrive in the 2020/21 financial year!

I figure the vehicle pictured at the top of the article is some kind of impression of what a Road Rover could look like?

Discovery Made in Slovakia a land locked country, wonder how they're are going to get them exported, you need sea freight so a location near a port logistically would have been a better move
Maybe they'll slowly cruise down the Rhine on a barge, a few at a time.

In the USA the makers use long trains and plenty of 9 & 10 car road freighters. Quite impressive sight, a Union Pacific or BNSF freight train of over 100 wagons full of cars with their noses elevated to get the back of another car under, and moving at 80mph. Their rail freight is a century ahead of any in OZ other than Qld's electric coal railroads. Don't forget that Europe is not a very big place and nowhere is far from a port by Australian standards of distance.

Well LandRover have lost me . Ive got money burning a hole in my pocket. I'm not waiting till 20-21 for a Defender .

UNLESS they release details / pictures of it now . I'll most likely be buying the new Jeep DC Ute due next year.

I reckon you're right. Land Rover would be losing many customers with no real news re Defender to look forward to. Also with D5 being so similar now to the luxury models of RR & RRS - the clear lack of a bush / work ready vehicle in the model range is a big mistake IMHO. Damaging to the brand in the long term too. Others disagree because the brand has become a luxury brand. But adventure / off road kudos doesn't come from cruising the urban jungle.

With Toyota 70 + 200 series both priced at $80K plus, it's unlikely the next Defender (whenever it arrives) will be under $80K. Which means Puma Defenders at $50-60K second hand are still very good value IMO. If I had money burning a hole in my pocket, I'd still be buying a low km Puma.

What are the alternatives? The 2019 Wrangler does look like an alternative depending on price, but I don't particularly like driving Wranglers. I find the cabin more pokey than a Defender. ...If I really wanted airbags and a softer more car-like ride, I suppose I'd look at all of the generic dualcab utes in the $50-60K range.

But a Puma Defender is still a better proposition at that price IMO. It's also unlikely Puma prices will drop unless the new Defender is $60K new.

I wouldn't go a Puma 110 at their prices over a D2...and if I wanted a Ute I would go a 130 as their prices are more reasonable and you get so much camping and touring potential. Cheers.
