Several years ago I had an idiot run into the back of my trailer, causing slight damage to the trailer and damaging the rear crossmember on the 110. The insurer wanted write off the 110.

Actually, it was a slightly different situation, as while in this sort of situation insurers apparently make the claim on the at fault driver's insurer, in this case they were the same company. The claim was made on the other driver's policy, and as the car was driveable I was able to keep it out of their hands. The trailer I got a quote from a trailer specialist and repaired it myself - replace the override coupling and replace the tail light (actually both lights, to match) and the insurer paid me the quoted figure.

None of the local repairers wanted to look at it, as they had plenty of work fixing roo damage without taking on something 'different'. I kept at the insurer, and eventually got some action when I told them I was not renewing my property insurance with them unless they repaired it. They were then able to find a local repairer, although even then I had to find a new crossmember for them (five minutes on the phone!).

So as Johntins said - keep at them. I don't know that it will guarantee a win, but certainly you won't if you give up!

    Update:
The repairer contacted the insurance company to see what was going on. The assessor has made time in his diary to view the car.
    I don't know when.
It would be nice for the insurance company to call us to let us know what is going on. Just once would be an improvement.

I found that calling the Financial Services Ombudsman tended to get the Insurer to perk up a bit.

For that amount of damage I wouldn't have bothered even filing a claim.

Just repair it using a repainted bonnet from the wreckers or just live with it as is.

    So, an update.
The assessors still haven't viewed "the wreck".
They called me today. First time. They're digging their heels in.
"It will be written off. The intercooler, condenser and radiator need to be replaced and has not been included in the quote."
    "Maybe they didn't need replacing."
"It's a frontal impact. They will need to be replaced."
"You realise the intercooler is on top of the motor and wasn't touched."
"I am looking at the photos. The intercooler connections at the front may be split."
"I have driven the car about 2,000km since the accident without issue."
"It could split at any time. It makes the quote more expensive."
"Have you spoken with the repairer about this."
"I just spoke to them ten minutes ago."
"Did you negotiate the quote with them?"
"They wouldn't do the repairs for $5,000."
    "$5,000! I thought the figure was $7,000?"
"We need a $2,000 lee way?

And so the conversation went around in circles for a while. Oh, he didn't want to give me his name and phone number. Pretty damned poor. When he knew I wasn't going to hang up, he gave me his employee number.

    I then phoned the repairer.
"What's the story on the intercooler, radiator and condenser? Why isn't it on the quote?"
"They are. We're pressure testing them."
"Can't you get your quote down any further?"
"We can't do it for $5,000."
'You know they're paying me $7,000."

    Pause.........

"We can do it for $7,000."
    "VIV and Vicroads inspection?"
"Included. It's just a paper trail. It's nothing structural."

Other things were discussed. It may be a little over $7k, depending on the roadworthy. I won't expect much to be needed for the roadworthy as it was roadworthied six weeks ago.

Gentlemen, we will rebuild. Wish me luck.

The fact they didnt turn tail and run at the mention of VIV is very promising.

If they are correct in saying that it is nothing structural then it will be relatively smooth sailing.

Just enjoy the bureaucratic BS in the meantime..

    Good luck!

P.S. PM me for the name of a VIV inspector to avoid Help required - written off vehicles, Victoria, uneconomical to repair

Would be interesting to see if anyone has stories of being stuffed around by insurance company regarding a claim and /or argument about a write off when their insurance has been arranged by a broker. Claims are also made via the broker, who is acting on behalf of the Insured. Not the insurance company. Brokers should have more power and experience than individuals regarding arguing with insurance company claims departments. Especially if their record of premiums collected and forwarded to the company for policies arranged is considerably higher than payouts for claims made.

I'll never buy another Ford, well, one made this century. The old VR was so much stronger, robust.
It's great having friends of friends.
I've seen the assessors report for the Vicroads WOVR report.
Heavy damage to the front drivers side. Heavy damage to the front passenger side.
I know they have not viewed the car. It appears to me they have not even viewed the pictures.
