    Easiest way into the Wonnangatta Valley From the South?

    Got a few spare days at the end of next week and I thought I might spend a couple of days in Wonnangatta. I want to come in from the South and leave via Rileys track and head up to Bright. As I will be on my own I would like any info on the safest way in from the South. I was planning to go in Via Zeka, so any recent track reports would be appreciated. I have only got the Wranglers on the 18" rims on the Disco, so if it looks like being wet I won't be going. It's either this or stay at home and do some work around Home

    8) Gday robbo,try down in the trips and tracks section,maybe one of the Vic boys may have put a trip report in there if you get no replies here,have fun on your trek,and maybe even put a trip report in as well :roll:

    Grab a vicroads map.
    there is a 2wd track into the valley from the east.

    So Drive towards Dargo from the Princess Hwy after Sale
    just before dargo there is a road to the West (left) between waterford and Dargo.
    This is a Good 4wd track or rough 2wd Track.
    That will take you to Wonnangatta.

    Then follow the road thru Wonnangatta and that will take you to up to Myrtleford and back south east to Bright.

    Or back trace towards Dargo and then at Mt Cythia head North to Bright.

    I dont have exact roads, but get a High country map (roof top) and have a squiz.

    I reckon you could do zeka spur in a (hired) 2wd car these days. Seriously.

    If you are coming in from the south then zeka could be a good option. It really is easy, don't be put off by stories of what it used to be like.

    When did you last drive Zeka Spur? I was on it about a month ago and it was !@#$%^. Half way down on the bend I managed to bend the steering track rod on the Disco.
    I would suggest coming in from Eaglevale. Dont think about climbing the hill above the cemetery as its treacherous. A couple were killed when their fourby rolled backwards and flipped. (not an urban myth either).
    Don't eat the blackberries either, parks have been spray9ing them.
    Appart from that its a great little spot and steeped in history. Few trout in the stream too.

    You cant climb the Widow maker anymore. its fenced off....
    Zeka nowdays is a good track apart from a 400m section of 1 big step, rocks and some big ruts.

    Last November in the wet. Didn't even need low range. I don't understand how you could bend the track rod on Zeka? What size tyres you running?

    It was the rock ledge that got me. It was chewed out and would have swallowed the disco. The rest of the group went around on the edge with the side slope. I had a heap of heavy gear on the roof rack and figured dropping over the ledge was the way to go. We spent a good amount of time filling in the hole and road building. It felt ok when I dropped over but a big rock caught between the front diff and track rod.
    I run standard size Yokohama ATR's.
    We used a winch to straighten the track rod to get the fron wheels sort of straight. The wheel sensors disabled the traction control and downhill decend control so the rest of the trip was with the centre diff locked and lots of spinning wheels but nothing stopped us.
    Fabulous time.
