Hi,
I lived in Malaysia for a few years of my early 20s. Shorts, shirt and thongs was the accepted dress code for motorcycles, and they were the majority of traffic there in the late 60s.
Thongs, bathers and towel round the neck, and off to the beach on the bike. Now I shudder at the potential for harm that was present at the time.

Riders should be allowed to choose what they want to wear while riding without public scrutiny.
Its there lives and skin they are gambling with so whats the problem? Seriously this is why this country is becoming such a nanny place.
Everyone wants to have an opinion on others doing things not up to there own standards.

I have hit the road a few times on bikes and walked away without any lasting injuries.
Family has never had to look after me after riding a motorbike lol. Assumptions man assumptions.

I just assume motorbike riders are gonna do something stupid at any time (kinda like patrols and hiluxs) so i just steer clear of them. Not saying you all ride them same but I assume you all do for your own safety.
I had one overtake me on the left at a school crossing in a tight st a few months back he assumed I was going to make room for him and he hit the side of my Ute as he came over blindly, he didnt fall off lucky for him but I hope he thinks twice next time. Sorry bikes but if you are doing the wrong thing don't assume that cars are going to get out of your way. Ride safe and respect yourselves then you will get respect from drivers well the decent ones who can share the road.

I like to consider myself a rider aware driver, that said yes i have had similar things happen where bikes just appear out of no where.
Im a big fan of loud motorbikes for this reason and i also like it when bikes blip for no other purpose other than to notify the cars there splitting or whatever.
Slightly off topic but not really.
A mate of mine who i used to ride with all the time was a great rider. His lines and control of the bike was a pleasure to watch. Really just a damn good rider BUT!!!!!
For some reason he had the attitude of MY LANE get out. He ended up getting collected by a car and cant do anything anymore let alone ride! Sad really but his attitude is what did it. We warned him so many damn times to drop that mindset and he never did..........
I've been riding on and off road for about 40 years and never worn anything less that blundstones on my feet and denim jeans.
Even on a dirt bike on private property the risk for injury like burns is just as high.
While visiting my daughter in hospital when she was 4 we met a teenager that was riding in shorts and thongs on a farm that hit a tree with such force that he degloved his right leg, if you look that up it means that all the flesh from his leg was pulled off the bone.
Hopefully they were able to save his leg but we didnt see him again to find out.
Its sheer stupidity to ride without proper gear and is now an offence to do so.
