Feed them the “ excess “ kangaroo problem.
And that is a perfectly natural, and sensible statement. But, how many do you kill? My point is, this incident was not managed right from the start. From the point the video was made of the feeding frenzy on the carcass. That area has been a tourist playground for many years. I think for the sake of the tourist dollar, the shark menace has probably been played down. Now, sharks, especially Tigers, don't hang around places where there is not a food source. Humans are not the Tigers natural food. I'll give you a tip, carcasses of any kind, whale, beef , kangaroo, any turtle egg laying area, is Tiger central. We caught a Tiger off the north west coast, that had bitten straight thru a turtle shell. Now this was a way off the mainland, near one of the islands . When we cut the stomach open, the back leg of a beast [ cattle] dropped out. Tigers are scavengers, always have been. Get them stirred up, as in feeding frenzy, they will have a go at anything , and humans are fair game. People need to be educated, you see a mob of sharks in a feeding frenzy, near a tourist area, tell someone. On the radio. Not social media. Whatever happened to common sense.Quote:

I can only wonder if the tigers see a person floating on the surface and think its a turtle and an easy meal , which I guess we are when we are in their domain . From what I have seen tiger shark do and watching them feed , these 2 people are extremely lucky to be alive, and I would think it was a relatively small shark that has done the attacking.
I don't agree with the senseless killing of the sharks , fair enough a large rouge shark that is hanging around and is a menace I can accept - done that many years ago myself , but the drum lines there catching anything and everything in the area is in my view over the top.
Sadly big sharks like the ones being caught dont end up on the dinner plate as they have to high a mercury content , they end up getting dumped which just attracts more sharks.

There are also crocodiles in the whitsundays are as well as various breeds of sharks, It is foolhardy to asume that it is perfectly safe to swim there.

I have spent many years fishing in northern waters and i rarely get into water above knee level let alone swim with the buggers.
Just because you can't see them doesn't mean that they are not there.
Maybe the tourist resorts have a duty of care to warn their vistors about the danger although most boat ramps and beaches have plenty of warning signs regarding crocks
