Good to see Toyota getting serious about it.
Ok,so this is whats going on with EV's on the other side.
Interesting info from one of the worlds biggest auto manufacturers.
At the moment, in Aus,they don't even have any plug in hybrids.
Toyota Goes Electric Starting In 2020: Announces Massive EV Offensive
Good to see Toyota getting serious about it.
Another nail in the coffin,
Toyota dumping V8 , Looks like LC300 is going to be V6 !
Toyota to axe LandCruiser V8 | Drive Car News
no mate, no nails in the coffin....Toyota will come up with a solution very quickly without all the bull**** Land Rover are going on with , with their new Defender.
I don't think the worlds most successful vehicle manufacturer is going to do anything that will harm their future.
I guarantee the LC300 wil steal the thunder , if any , from the new defender.
It will be cheaper , as good or better offroad, have a better warranty and far better service network.
I can't see nails in the coffin, in fact I can't see need for a coffin.
They are the second biggest vehicle manufacturer on the planet,so they will have to do a good job to keep ahead of the opposition.
In Aus,i don't believe they even have a plug in hybrid, apparently they do have some in other markets.
As for the LC V6,thats been a rumour for the last 18 months.
Manufacturers are reducing the capacity of their diesels, and making them more efficient.
The fleet manger at the local dealer, that we deal with, told me last week the V6 LC 300 was to be released end of this year, but will now be next year.
The engine will also be fitted to the 70 series.
Toyota wants to stay in business, so it has to go down the more efficient, lower emissions route. That is actually the only way forwards for vehicle manufacturers.
Toyota hybrids are well proven now, so the challenge is to educate Toyota buyers, who are notoriously conservative and sceptical about climate change and emissions standards.
Euro 6 is too hard for many dirty V8s to meet.
Land Rover may be leading the way now. Good to see.
I'm agreeing with you, The Defender wont have any thunder , no one cares about it apart from a few people here and a few people at Lucky8 in USA . The LC300 will outsell it by multiples of tens of thousands .
But yes the V8 will be dropped for sure if it cant meet EU emission standards. They are not going to produce it just for Australia.
Australia is a decade behind world emissions standards. Our fuel quality is inferior. Our fuel can damage the latest fuel filters. We are falling behind the game.
Eventually we will be forced to get up to speed.
Both Toyota and Honda are on record as saying that they see the future of transport as electric. This has been consistent over the last 2 decades and is backed up by their product development. These new platforms will run alongside the existing petrol and diesel vehicles not replace them. No doubt this will have been driven by EU rules that by 2040 all cars have to be at least hybrid. Where they differ to other manufactures is that they see battery electric as a stop gap until hydrogen electric becomes the standard. They base this on the need for a leap in battery technology that is always promised but never seems to arrive. At the moment longer range requires a bigger battery which results in the current mix of cars which have a battery range designed to just stagger over the minimum legal requirements for low emission zones. Was it pure coincidence that when the fuel efficiency test changed that all the european hybrids were with drawn from the market? All had a ‘good reason’ change of model or model update etc. just a strange one that they all did this at the same time.
Have driven the Hyundai hydrogen van and can see the benefits over the battery electric competition. Price holds it back as government subsidies give preference to electric battery.
