Meat eating Crimson Rosellas

We have two groups of breeding grey butcherbirds that love peanuts.They even feed them to the young ones.

Every morning they appear looking for a nut or three.

And our large group of Kookaburras have just had three young ones that have just left the nest.They always seem to head to the top of the tallest tree,definitely aren't scared of heights.Then sit there waiting for food to arrive.

and the upside to regularly feeding( or feeding regular) maggies is they dont swoop you during breeding season,, [wink11]

On that note,our breeding Kookaburras definitely don't have the postman on their Christmas card list[bighmmm][biggrin]

Or our dog.

Or the local group of possums.They actually attack the possums at all hours of the night.

On another note there are quite a few parrots that eat insects as well as seeds and it seems that they can adapt to eating meat fairly easily the Kea being one of the best examples.

Unfortunately the Kea likes his tucker live . Has a bad habit of attacking sheep and chewing through to their kidneys. Usually only the weak or injured though. When I was a kid working on high country stations the station hands carried a sawn off .410 shotgun and called it a Kea Gun.
They became protected later in the 80,s

Kookaburras are one of the most aggressive birds, they will eat anything including, reptiles from penny lizards up, any small bird especially nestlings like baby finch/pardolote/parrots, also any small marsupial that's dares to be accessible.
We usually don't see a lot of Kookaburras, lately we had some poultry hatched. 5 adult Kookas arrived and inside 2 days 15 chicks were gone.

Hi,
The Kookas even dominate the currawongs on our balcony.
I like the Kookas, but they are not native here in Tasmania, so we try and keep them on short rations.
