2 years ago I bought a Toro zero turn with steering wheel (SW4200).While not a zero turn in the strictest sense,you can only lock up one rear wheel and swing around to do the adjacent row. With true zero turn you can swing around on the spot. Because it hasn't got any casters and steers with the front wheels I can safely go down steep hills. Most of our land is on a hill and 42" cut is about maximum without causing too much saw-toothing, however I believe they are available with a wider cut. The machine feels much more stable than an ordinary ride-on and reduces the cutting time considerably. Because I've got other grass cutting machines I've only used the Toro for 33 hours and am therefore not in a position to comment on it's reliability. I'm still convinced that I've made the right choice. The downside: No hour meter, no lights. Both since purchased off e-bay. I'm sorry if this sounds like an ad, but (so far) I'm only a happy customer.

I have a quite a few acres to mow and rather than get the tractor out for the smaller areas I wanted a ride on. It had to be able to cope with long grass, not a golf course or lawn bowls yard :-) Most of the video ads I saw for zero turns showed some chick riding on a ZT tending the manicured lawn. Only the Greenfield showed it doing cutting through deep overgrown yard. Plus its Aussie designed and built in Qld. With just one local Aussie manufacturer of mowers left how could I not buy Aussie Home - Greenfield Mowers Have had it now for 5 years and its still going fine. Definitely have a look at one. I have the 19 inch fastcut delux. Briggs & Stratton engine, build solidly.
PS. Looks like Greenfield now have ZT models.

We have a Toro ZT where I work, (school). It's a 6' cut and is fast and so far, reliable after a bit over two years. It does get flogged mowing sheep and cattle paddocks as well as the playing fields. It also does it's fare share of rocks, logs, students shoes, phones etc, AND you can steer it with one hand (straightish. U turns one handed might make you spill your beer). After all, you need to keep adequately hydrated.
I've heard comments about the parts being expensive, but we've only bought a set of blades so far, after a student hit the sheep yards with them.:eek2:[bigwhistle]

I bought a new Toro zero turn 3 years ago, a 48", 23 HP Titan complete with ROPS. It mows paddocks and the spoon drain by the roadside outside our place. 75 hours up so far with no issues and balancing it on side slopes is a lot of fun.
My only complaint is, having 3 blades it tends to leave stalks of grass where the blades overlap. If I cut the grass more often rather than leaving it until it's a foot high this might not be a problem.
Have a look at the World Lawn Viper mowers.
