    Over forty at nearly 8pm!

It is still over forty here, after a maximum of 42 - and that is the official temperature at Dubbo Airport; add three or four for my verandah.

The air temperature driving home from town today was 44 - and I have no aircon in the County.

Or in the house, although it stays about ten degrees below the outside if I keep it shut up during the day and open up once the temperature outside falls below the inside.

But I seem to be coping reasonably well, as do my grandchildren.

Maxima forecast in the mid forties up to Saturday, then dropping to mid thirties, with minima dropping from high twenties to around twenty.

What we could really do with though, is some rain. After a bit of greening with the rain before Christmas, things are looking very bad again now. Dams and rivers are at or below historic low levels, and I noticed today driving into town that all the understorey in the forest is dying, as are some of the trees.

Some towns are getting very low in water - Walget is out completely, with the weir dry and the bore field having failed. Some water has been sent down the Namoi from upstream, but Keepit is down to 0.5% capacity, so there won't be any more until it rains (a lot). Burrendong is down to about 10%, and that is the best of any of the inland dams.

Personally, I am OK - my tanks are near full, thanks to a large roof area and no garden!

Putting 20 West facing Solar panels on our back lean to roof has made a huge difference to inside temps as we expected it would.

All the news services are banging on about a severe heatwave. The only parts of Qld over 40 today were the western districts that are usually over 40 for months on end.

Only got to 30 & 32 in most parts of the south east today. A normal Qld. summer day. What heatwave? Friends in Warrnambool answered an e-mail saying it is cool there, 21.

    Re Warrnambool district:

Peaked at 34° at 2pm but interestingly dropped and came back up to 33° at 6pm before dropping away again. 20°C now with a lovely cool coastal breeze Over forty at nearly 8pm!

Nearly thought we’d get a thunderstorm around midday looking at the dark clouds heading over.
