Have you bought a set of manuals for the various vehicles? Might help.
Hey guys,
After moving back down here to SA, I have been forced to find some work. My cushy set up in Tindal has come to an end and being back in reality means I can't just do the occasional service for my weekly coffee money.
Randomly I rang a local Land Rover mechanic to see if they had anything going that could fit in with my new situation. Again randomly, they said yes, as they had a back log and could appreciate the extra hand.
Last week I started, three days a week, 9 till 4. Fits in around my kids and will work out great once my partner is deployed. Then I can go full time when she returns later in the year.
But boy, did I get thrown into the deep end! Full service on a D3, timing belts and HPFP belt on a 3.0lt D4, rear diff on a D1, intake manifold on a 3.0lt L322 and the list goes on.
I will say that I'm probably a bit slower than they would like me to be, but I have Bronchitis ATM which is finally going away AND I don't have 30yrs experience on Land Rovers. Will get better though.
The four days there have been great for me. Learning a ton, new set of challenges and working on something I get excited about. I was really getting put off with the stuff I have been doing previous to the point I wanted a career change. Might just hang on to that tool box a bit longer.
I would appreciate if anyone had any input on how I could go about broadening my knowledge with these things.
Thanks for reading!

Get a set of the Rave CDs from the shop here at AULRO for a start. The amount of info available on this site is absolutely mind blowing! Use the Google search box at the bottom of the page for best results. The hints and tips you'll find here will often make up the difference in speed and ease of some of the jobs you do.
There are other LR websites and forums as well. Just be aware that many of them (US sites in particular) will have practically no info on diesels.
Great to see it's reignited the spanner passion!

Thanks, this is a good idea. I have one for my RRC that has been the foundation of the repairs needed to it and I have one for our D4 in my shopping basket.
From the amount of vehicles coming through, I think ones for the D1 and D2, early RRS and possibly early L322 should tide me over for a bit. Obviously any defender ones would help, but I would mind getting my head around the series models. Not because they come in, but out of interest and to help me if something pops up.
Cheers
