    Tassie???????

    Hi All especially Tassie members,
We have a long planned caravan trip to Tassie coming up from the middle of Feb, but in view of the fire situation, would welcome input re whether the state will still welcome sensible visitors, and places to avoid. We realise emergency services do not like sight see-ers, but also know that tourists are a major source of income in many areas, hence our query.
    Thanks,
    Woolly

I reckon you would be right to travel through most places and if you are towing a caravan I'd imagine you are sticking to the main tourist routes? Check in with tas fire service and tas police web sites for closures and you will have no problems. I can confirm west coast is pretty much all open as usual atm. Main area if concern is down south in the huon region the rest of the forest fires are in inaccessible wilderness areas.

Tassie is a big place......stick with your planning, we spent 20 days on the island and felt we only scratched the surface.

Way back in the late 90’s we had the same question when we were confronted with the Thredbo Landside....like our accommodation was two doors away.

People were cancelling accommodation left right and Centre but we decided to support the community and still go. Yeah sure powers and water which was on/off/on, it was a bit somber at times, we gave the journo’s the finger and timtams to the rescuers.

Thanks for all the reassuring replies. We have only had a few days there previously and have been looking forward to seeing more for a long time. Will try to stay out of the way of emergency services and support locals as much as possible.
    Cheers,
    Woolly.

    Tassis is a beautiful place.

Sadly, yesterday morning you could smell it burning from the Bellarine Peninsula.

Right now I am in Castle Forbes Bay, visiting my sister for three weeks.

If you happen to watch or read some media, including “authorities”, you would think the apocalypse is nigh.

    This is not so.

Yes fire is here, yes on occasion smoke surrounds us,but the greatest concern is the misinformation; I suggest it fraudulent .

So come to Tassie, and pay no heed to those rascals from Alfie Langer Land whom reckon Tassie is being left in the Southern Ocean whilst the North Island drifts north.
