Thread: I had a fall yesterday - was stuck getting up again.

I sympathise with these stories.
Had the 82 year old father in law with us for the week. He used to be really sprightly and even built a large brick house on his own, but now I've realised how wobbly he has become. I keep thinking that will be me one day.

thanks guys, with my ailments and my stint in hospital I didn't have core strength any more , once I get onto the ground i found it near impossible to get up again by myself. I did a fair bit of outpatient physio and was progressing. I was happy that recently I could get out of a chair ( with a bit of effort) unassisted, but for some reason I have made some steps backwards again and find it difficult. Somedays carrying anything more than a couple of kg causes extreme spinal pain. So I have to lie down flat to get relief. I;m going back to pain management courses etc again soon. Oh such is life just gotta grin and bear it.

Carrying a Mobile Phone is a good idea & one I have thought about from time to to time & while I do carry one when outdoors I wonder how I would cope under different circumstances ie. How I fell?, was I semi conscious?, could I use the buttons correctly?, did I land on the phone in my pocket? etc. So many variables but I do still carry it in case I could overcome any of the above but it is still better to have it, than not.

No problem with coverage though thank god, or TELSTRA.

Found my land lady on her back in the driveway on a 40 degree day.
She was yelling and couldn’t reach her phone a few feet away after she lost it on landing/impact.

I think the Apple watch is good idea.
Trendy functional and not at all a symbol of frailty like some of the other options.

Well today ! was getting out of the shower and bang down I went hard, I fell again this time hitting the bathroom wall with the back of my head. Heather heard the Bang from the Kitchen and came and found me on the floor, in a twisted position, so I now have a headache and a neck ache. At least the neck verebrae fusion held up to the blow LOL though which is a good thing. I couldn't get up by myself so Heather to the rescue again. I'm not liking these fall experiences.

Have you had your bathroom modified with handrails, special floor surfaces etc and put a stool in the shower? There is a service for this and I believe there may even be a support payment for it. Centrelink should know.
