Canberra has already gone for zero emissions, so why don't you research them?
For example, like many companies, Canberra is buying it's electricity from renewable generators, including the solar farms around the ACT. That works well.

Reliable environmentally friendly electricity generation is exploding in this country. It's happening everywhere. Just look around you.

As for facts to prove a 1.5 degree rise is detrimental, did you miss the bushfires? Even the government says climate change has made droughts worse and increased the fuel load.

What about the Indian Ocean Dipole being out of whack for years until recently, because the oceans absorb 90% of atmospheric heat, causing warmer oceans which disrupt currents and are blamed for droughts in Australia and floods in Africa.

And there are many other examples for those who will look. The evidence is everywhere.

I’m still in the camp of “we can’t stop it” so what are we doing to adapt to it.

That should be the real discussions, nothings going to stop it happening, what are we doing to live with it.

We should never stop being ourselves. At the same time it helps to understand there is always room for improvement. Now, how do we get every one on the same page with climate change , they all don't have to be singing in tune, as long as they are reading the music.

That really should not matter.
We elect people to make decisions on our behalf.
We need the elected leadership to grab the bull by the horns.
Once they truely do this then the majority will toe the line in my opinion.

The fact they use this topic like a football is the problem.

I remember the approach to CFCs when that was understood.
No mucking around blanket bans on products that cause the problem.
Obviously the same approach is not possible with CO2....

ScoMo will get the boot over exactly this, oh and that holiday everyone got excited about.

I didn't think you would be the type of person to give up. Stopping it is not the option. Slowing it down, may be our only option. Yes, our climate has been evolving since time began. Yes, humans and human activity have had a major impact on the modern climate. What humans and human activity do now , I believe, will determine climatic conditions for the future. I think it is safe to assume the Earth will not go back to where it was, no matter what we do. So, what to do? Starting the conversation, and listening to those who know, would be a good start. Wasting our effort arguing points of view from different points of the spectrum when the central point is clear, is the domain of lunatics.

See that is what i find hard to swallow. Major impact? Its like scare mongering and i suspect why people shut down on the conversation.

Would the climate be changing if humans were not on this planet? Yep.

Our sun is the major impactor on humans, life and our atmosphere, not us.

Sure we are dumping co2 in to the mix which does not appear to help and perhaps we should stop.

You miss the point. Nothing will happen unless the people, that's you and I, and every one else stands up and says ENOUGH!. Trusting our elected representatives to have our best interests at heart, and not their own, is Alice in Wonderland thinking. The yellow brick road stops at the burnt out forest. To argue that Humans have not had a major impact on our climate is to totally ignore scientific fact. All your points , even scare mongering, I agree with. We are not that far apart in our thinking. But people are frightened. And are looking for answers. As in Medicine, where there was a paradigm shift from " clinical judgement " to evidence based medicine, humans need a paradigm shift in their approach to climate change.

If the climate modelling is to be taken as accurate (!) then the change is already happening and no amount of effort on our part can stop this - as quoted by Climate Scientists [bigwhistle]

Combined with both the complete lack of acknowledgement of emissions increases due to global population growth projections and the refusal of the global financial groups to see that infinite growth and consumption on a finite resource is physically impossible; we are destined to remain unable to slow significantly or prevent the changes from occuring.

The nature of humans is to push back against authority or restriction of their perceived freedoms - as a species we are brilliant and foolish all at the same time.

What I'm doing is simply acknowledging that remaining in a state of constant concern will do nothing but raise blood pressure, shorten life span and impact mental health. What I'm very good at is deciding to let these go - if I can not control or influence the outcome.

Anyone believing that any protest, march, complaint, group or organisation can alter the course of this in a major way is living in a bubble.

Unlike CFCs (or even Nukes to a point) which could easily be substituted and therefore globally banned and have an impact - production of GHGs is a given, ongoing, natural and otherwise, phenomenon that just by the very act of living continues to occur. More living, more GFGs created (and more again when we decompose at the end).

The very sharp reality of the topic of this thread is not that climate change is the issue - total lack of preparedness, desire to locate in unsuitable surroundings, inappropriate constructions, lack of "maintenance" of fire prone areas, inappropriate local management policies and even a good dose of NIMBY meant that the conditions presented by the current climate were perfect for what has occured.

Humans are a blight on the landscape and like White ants on a piece of Pine, are the termites of this planet... [bigsmile]

I have had shares in this company for about 10 years now, Maybe if more people put their money where their mouth is instead of just whining, blaming the government or protesting in the streets our emmisions targets would be Much easier to achieve by supplying the funds these types of companies need for the R&D to develop this new tech [biggrin]
