Climate Change and our Land of Fire, Flood and Drought.

The reason it's important to discuss climate on a vehicle forum is that vehicle emissions are massive as a percentage of overall causing global warming, no matter where you live. The climate travels the entire globe carrying emissions with it. Everyone is an equal contributor, no matter what the population size or where you live.

We all have a responsibility to be aware and look towards changing our vehicle habits.

Being at the forefront of discussions like this will always alienate those who feel threatened by it.

Kudos especially to GoingBush, for being an early adopter / EV converter.

It's also about to be the biggest issue in the motor vehicle sector of all time - as soon as EV awarenes become mainstream, ICE vehicle values will plummet.

You were right on with the comment re "short memory" and The Oils.
The thing forgotten tho is that at least in this country, we've had extreme weather events since recorded settlement.
Most of those events were in the 19'th and very early 20th century that had a far worse impact on those early settlers than what impact we get today on our lives.

Look up Federation Drought to see how much worse that one was on the lives of those trying to earn a living back then, compared to how much less it impacts lives now.

200 years of knowledge totally down the drain! .. "Short memory" alright .. but not in the way you used the analogy!

The point is that the extreme events are now more common and more intense, and there are records being broken all over the place. On Black Saturday the temperature on my parents' farm was 49C - we've been there since the 1880s and there's never been temperatures like that before. And then were all of the records being broken in Victoria last week - again, that's not just a blip.

We own land rovers, the value has already plummeted.
Only a fool would drive around in one and cry incessantly about emissions and it’s affect on the climate.

If the new EV Defender is fit for purpose I’ll buy one. Until then there is not much choice other than converting it myself, which is not my area of expertise.

Both my Land Rovers have actually increased in value over the past 5 years. But I reckon without an EV conversion in the next five years they’ll plummet.

Personally I will be driving my D2a V8 until I die Because it is a car I Love to drive, I also enjoy driving the 79 Series with the chip and 4inch exhaust because it goes like the clappers and sounds Bloody Amazing, You won't get that satisfaction driving an EV[biggrin]

Personally I don't subscribe to that type of point of view, but the sad reality is that a 79 series with any chip .. no matter how aggressive it may be, no matter how large the exhaust may be .. will be a slug compared to an equivalently powered EV version.

Sound is neither here nor there .. can be added superficially if required. My personal preference for sound is as close to zero as possible!

For me, once the major obstacle of range is addressed, and obviously cost too, I'll be onto an appropriate EV ASAP too.

Whilst I have no issue wiith recent data on climate events, I find it strange that Australia is being taken to task by an organisation, controlled by foreign countries, which is doing nothing to address the real issues of Asian and third world nations. Even some European states.
Go to China and have a look at the atmosphere. I reckon I know what the response would be if thiis obscure cadre told China to close down their coal infrastructure.
Without wanting to start a political theme to this discussion, perhaps it's because they know that Australian politici ans will ask "How High" if they think it will look good on their Action Sheet, plus the fact we have an influential "Feel Good" sector.

Something has to be done but, asking an entire country, with a bit over 18,000,000 registered vehicles, to save the planet when there's 10,000,000 2 stroke motor cyles in Saigon alone!!!!!!!!

We have kept our 40 acres as natural as possible and planted trees native to the area but I'm sure it is doing nothing to offset foreign rainforest degradation.

China is pretty much the world leader in investment in renewable technology and the government is under enormous pressure to cut the smog in Beijing and other cities, so the Chinese are certainly doing a lot more than we are.

IF the Chinese are doing more than we are then how come they still have a massive smog problem and we don't??
