Learning from the past is important.

Unfortunately a lot of the comparing I have seen and heard is merely people trying to score political points.

The comparison is not very helpful if it is based on incomplete information and an oversimplification.

No doubt there are people somewhere who are attempting to learn from the past, but they are not the people who are shouting the loudest.

As if I really need to post another link to a 'geophysical science' sector that 'got it wrong'.

They assumed that historical data would provide them with an easy way out .. just continue on with the same old same old.
They got caught out! A scheduled release of new data is already out of date.

Earth's Magnetic Field has scientists stumped.

What does this show ... scientists don't always get it right ... especially when it comes to predictions!
We(normal folks) understand this, and accept it as part of the path to greater knowledge.

What do we learn from this kind of new data? Scientists don't always get it right. Being sceptical isn't a bad thing, it forces a clearer understanding of the data.
If I'm labelled a denialist .. I take that with pride!
I don't trust a scientist's word just because they're a scientist. Being a scientist doesn't automatically imply they know everything.
To be believed, at the least their predictions need to be more accurate.

It doesn't show anything of the sort - there's a natural phenomena that's not behaving as predicted. On the other hand, the changes to our climate are behaving as predicted in the models - but you don't accept the evidence of that either ...

Great, Eevo. In Victoria we have had Royal Commissions since the 1939 Black Friday fires, and nobody has cared what the findings said. Learning from the past is great, and I'm sure firefighters want to, but politicians don't give a ****.

You will "compare", and you will be ignored. Sad but true,

Models are not evidence, and never can be. How hard is that to understand?

i cant speak for 1939 as I wasnt around, but most of the recommendations from the 2009 royal commission have been adopted in Vic. (SA is a bit behind the times).

Oh dear, The Guardian, and "facts". Have you not grown out of this, Mick? Or is it that The Guardian says things that suit your thinking?

The Guardian is tripe. It plays to an agenda that it sets for itself, and it has no relationship to reality. It has NO credibility whatsoever amongst journalists, and no decent writer will ever post to it.

If you want to believe in smoke and mirrors, by all means read the Guardian. Intelligent people ignore it.
