Hottest November night in VIC. in a century, they say.

Residents urged to leave homes after hottest November night in a century
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

Well said BR. Although the way things are going, we may all need to join the CFA for some training.

How about CFA conscription? Maybe that would awaken/shock out of their slumber the millions of Australians with their heads in the sand who just think it’s another hot day and this many bushfires in November is normal.

    It’s not even summer yet!

Its only a matter of time before the Defence Force is called in to relieve our weary fire fighters.

No, actually they should get out from behind their lattes and join a brigade where they will be provided with the training to fight fires and make a positive contribution. Most areas will have a local brigade and around the ACT there are significant numbers of people who are currently away fighting fires and many government employees are given leave to do so. That is because they want to give back to the community and do something more than whinging on a forum. My wife and I are also in the RFS but the brigade we are in is small and rurally based and does not have the resources to spare to send away people.
In NSW to become useful to actually fight a fire is a weekend of training, after which you are provided with the necessary PPE to do so safely. If you don't want to fight fires there are many opportunities to assist by providing support services. NSW RFS - NSW Rural Fire Service

In the 1950's the then Qld. government considered conscription for harvest labour in the sugar industry. Post war expansion of the industry to nearly twice the 1945 level & full employment, meant a shortage of cane cutters. The legal advice was that civil conscription was unconstitutional, would be highly unpopular and likely lose an election. "A most courageous decision, Prime Minister" to quote the immortal Sir Humphrey.

Only fire trained military personal will be used on the front fire lines - it is too dangerous to have untrained personal in the fire zone and if untrained personal are used it takes too many RFS trained personal to look after them and these trained staff will be better used on the front line.

Defence would be used behind the fire lines like providing transport services, other logistical services. policing etc.
