No, the opposite. In the years after 1788 a smallpox epidemic brought by the invaders is believed to have killed about half the indigenous people in this country

The account I read is that Moluccan fishermen bought smallpox to the aboriginal population BEFORE the arrival of the English which decimated the population and this was one reason that the aboriginals could not defend against the English. They also bought Dingoes. But hey nobody knows for sure as there is no written history is there.

Just for interest I just looked at the AEMO wind power chart. 38.1 % at 3AM (Hooray) , but 14.1% at 3pm ( oops).
I just hope those old coal power stations can keep pumping out enough power to run all those aircons in SA and Vic.

Thank God it's an average only as my observations show yesterday's peak was the lowest temp we have had in the last 5 days, at 35°. Before that we were in the 40s with a top of 45°.
Today we only hit 32°, which is quite balmy for us.

We had a low temp of 19° last night, which is quite low for this time of the year.

Really, averaging something over the size and numerous environments of Australia? I'm not convinced of the accuracy. Not of the actual measurements but by the application of data.

For instance, the temperature in Brissy is measured at the airport. Now, this airport is on reclaimed land i.e. an unnatural environment so, how can the recorded temps from the 1880s up to 2003, pre-airport, be accurately compared to post 2004 observations?

I'm not dissing "Climate Change" for one second but, if you read all the "Facts", there's a shipload of "Could, Likely, Projected, Predicted, Models Indicate, May" et cetera.
My hope is that, someone can categorically state "Blah blah blah WILL/WILL NOT happen" and it does/doesn't.
Oh, hang on, Al Gore did, didn't he?

Everyone is calling for preventative measures against what would appear to be, at the moment, an hypothetical apocalypse.

In Brisbane,we have also had exceptionally cool nights so far this spring and summer.
Humidity has also been very low,one would think way below average.
How this fits in to their averages, who knows?

The BOM predicted smoke today and yesterday at The Entrance near my place.
    Guess what , no smoke.
Tomorrow predicted to be 33C at The Entrance, not so bad and certainly not record heat. We shall see.

That was probably his response to his neighbors after they told him to dim his 1000/ 80w incandescent Xmas lights on his gaff. Again.

Today got to 39C, exactly as predicted. Smoke was pretty much as predicted. This is significantly above the December average maximum of 34C, but below the December record maximum of 42C, set eight days ago. And this Saturday, is forecast to reach 45C!

Surely smoke is consistent with fire. And wind direction. Perhaps any fires in your area were extinguished. WAS it BOM, or your local radio station.

The Moluccans traded with the locals in Arnhem Land. For hundreds of years. Pray tell, what English were the locals defending against? All indigenous history is in the song lines. What account did you read?

We are just entering sun cycle 25 now.
I expect a few good years to come with moderate temperatures and conditions.

The end of 25? Geomagnetic reversal? Mini Iceage? Possibilities are endless.
    Fun times ahead.

Interesting temp charts. Shows the globe getting hotter.

Bob that is the point. The BOM got the wind direction completely wrong.( and I do look at the BOM site)
However it looks a bit smoky today so maybe they are only a couple of days late. So much for their super computers and forecasting prowess.
    Regards PhilipA.
Bob your reply is perplexing re smallpox. I am not about to start yet another meaningless discussion off topic, which I think should be shut down as one side is never going to convince the other side and it has on several occasions descended to name calling.
