It is an 'American thang' I believe Slunnie, but general critical opinion was that Aussies were used to the word Bush fire & did not relate WF to here. At least that was the version I was told & it makes sense to me.

It was probably brought back by some CFS shiny arse on one of his OS junkets.

Was as dry as a dead dingo's,
donger is the missing word, right?
A fine turn of phrase Steve & one for the book on Australian language

Just this minute reading that linked article on Outback Water supplies or the lack of. Bloody heartbreaking.

Inept & lazy, me me me junkets first Governments will be brought to book over this period of inaction leading up to & during this era in our history.

I may not be around to witness it, but by God they will be held accountable.

We need a strong concrete wall for a start. The Butts can be in any ****ty old Quarry suitable for these bastards to die in. Maybey we don't even need a wall.

    Just sayin roight?

None of us had ever heard Wildfire used in Aus before. It might have been her background also.
    Cheers

Probably correct & if my memory serves me well it was a SA Country Fire Service thing.

I was talking with a forester at the weekend who was saying that in the past they could do hazard reduction using cool burns downhill to the edge of wet rainforests, knowing the fire would die out when it hit the wet area, but now they can't do that because the wet areas are so dry the fire just takes off into the rainforest and does massive damage. You know it's dry when wet rainforests will burn.

Can you imagine the authorities authorising cool burns now?
Under normal times it would be a disaster so maybe this will be in their minds now.
The crap has mainly all gone with these fires so it would be a great opportunity to recommence cool burns on new growth & forest floor litter before it gets out of hand once more..

There has to be a lesson here for all to see so let Australia get on with it.

What would the Greenies have to complain about? Well, something or other of course but they'd be a voice crying in the wilderness, literally.

I went up the M31 - you would never have know that there had been a huge fire in the area - didn't get near the freeway but I guess they closed it because of the smoke and the danger of accidents with fire vehicles etc.

Was actually a nice run - little smoke and few cars.
