    Work for Dole?

Ok, we live in a small town 2 thousand people odd, has good aged care facility, plus 1 attached to the hospital.
So people unemployed could get certificate qualifications for free, Quite few people obtained aged care qualifications for free, now facility is advertising for workers, always has actually, but no one has applied for the job.
    How can this be allowed?
We have no public transport here, nearest big towns are 75 km east or west.

It’s probably like anywhere mate - those that actually want jobs have them, or the pay is so low for these positions those that could - and should - be applying think it’s too much hard work for the extra dollars they’d get and prefer to bludge off the tax payer.
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.

Is it a requirement for them to receive the handout to be studying ??

Just because they have studied and received a certificate doesn’t mean they have the drive/work ethic/energy to actually work. Training institution cannot create this.

Maybe those that have the qualifications need to be Made to at least apply for the job, If they don't then i can't see why they can't have their dole cut off.
There are far too many towns and communities that have a high percentage of people living off the public purse and yet the buisnesses and services in these towns/communities have to "Outsource" when it comes to getting the personell/workers they need that could have been easilly filled by the local population.
I have NO problem with people reciving unemployment benefit when the are UNABLE to find work But I DO have a major problem with people reciving benefits when they are quite capable of working and there ARE jobs available.
If people do not WANT to work then that is their decision But I Hate the idea that as a taxpayer I am supposed to support these lazy useless bastards when they are quite capable of supporting themselves.

My wife has worked in age care for about 20 years, there is already too many working in the field that have bits of paper and shouldn't be any where neaqr an age care home or providing services to those that live at home. Takes a very special person to be a good age care worker. I have also done maintance for 12 months at an age care facility so have a small personel insite
. Don't wish that on our aged
    cheers

I spent some time on THE DOLE before I was pensioned off, let me tell ya, I would love to be working but after battling for 10 years to keep working I finally went with the advice of the doctors and sort a pension. My mind is active and every day I struggle mentally with the torment of having an ailing body. There is more like me than some relise

The problem is that minimum wage or slightly better paid jobs do not pay enough nett take home pay to make the work attractive. Not sufficient reward for 38 hours work as compared to Newstart Allowance. The old CES used to have trouble filling some training courses but others had waiting lists (welding was one). Handy skills for one's hobbies were popular but not courses in cleaning, aged care, and other low skill low paid occupations.

Job seekers receiving Newstart can be referred to jobs that don't meet the definition of "suitable work" but can't be breached or cancelled if they refuse the referral or to accept such work, Harvest labour is a perennial problem as much of it is piece work and doesn't pay an award wage with award conditions and thus is not "suitable work". Local unemployed often would not work for farmers whom they regarded as slave driving skinflints. So we have to import slave labour from the Pacific Islands. Remember the kanakas in the canefields?

Greens and others are calling for an increase in Newstart Allowance. Minimum wage would have to have a substantial increase to keep ahead or few long term unemployed would want a job that paid less than Newstart.

Perhaps some of these people have applied, but the employers wanted the posit filled by those with experience?

I'm not defending the dole bludgers of this world for a moment.
After about 15 years in Employment Services in an area with an aging population and a high demand for Aged Care I saw MANY people get their Aged Care quals only to fall at the first hurdle which was the Selection Criteria.
Generally speaking a lot of those with the quals ONLY met the Cert III / IV Aged and Community Care part. We offered all sorts of wage subsidies, extra quals, extended unpaid RELEVANT placements, etc. to no avail. The upshot was that the RTO got their govt. subsidy, the Employment Service provider got a minor education outcome, the Aged Care facilities couldn't get people who were qualified, and the job seeker was left with an essentially useless qual and unable to get further subsidised training unless it was at the next level.
Everyone lost except the govt. minister who could loudly proclaim that he/she/it subsidised x,000 new qualifications.
There are quite a number of other industries that suffer from the same malaise. Essentially the system sucks and appears to be designed by a committee who looked at all of the systems around the world and selected the worst attributes of each to be implemented here.
    Cheers,

    I agree Blaze,
I just find it hard we give them qualifications for free and whilst I agree with what you say, the industry is very short staffed.
I just have trouble with, we give for free, and you dont have to do anything.
Maybe, fit for purpose interview before we give qualifications away.
I had to agree to 6 months commitment to an employer when B doubles came out as he paid for the upgrade.

the places sacked their casual staff when the work for the dole came in, to save money, now they are whinging they cant get workers

my eldest sons partner suffered that fate, so she went and got training in IT and now is on a 5 year contract helping oldies use technology in the same place but gets decent money not a pittance

instead of investing in interested people they went for the money and it's come back to bite them it seems
