    Net browsing

I have been seeing stuff on net adds that is becoming much more than coincidence. This morning bought some oil with card off savings account, have a look on the net a couple of hours later and adds for oil start popping up, just dumb luck? I had not been searching for oil or lubricant for months.
I have even been discussing certain subjects with workmate then adds pertaining to our conversation appear, wild coincidence? This has happened quite a few times in the last couple of months.
For the first one I mentioned the bank would have to be selling information to internet advertisers or sellers of information, entirely possible and with what we have just heard about banks lately I would be amazed if they weren't.
Next event I mentioned I can think of no reason that can happen apart from voice information being used? The things mentioned between myself and my workmate were not related to any searched for items or any content viewed on computers which are always on in the background connected to wifi. Not necessarily somebody listening to every word but some words used as keys to hook up to some algorithm?
Am I paranoid? Anybody else had similar experiences?
I see some warning about using Chinese computer/phone software for fear of "Spying", with all the information returning to the likes of Apple how is that different? Economic and personal information OK to be if not stolen then shifted without our complete knowledge?

Do you have Facebook Messenger on your phone? If so, this can cause it. Also, if you have a Google Assistant, etc in your house this will also do these sort of things.
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.

My son and I were talking about a Toyota Corolla ad from 1990. I was mentioning I had a promo video of it packed away somewhere under the house.
Next day a link to the video shows up in an ad.
    Not a coincidence IMO.
If my iPhone is waiting to hear my voice say “hey Siri” I’m certain it’s listening for much more.

    I wouldn't be surprised.

I do like that I have FB fooled atm, all the ads and suggestions I get are for Canberra and the NSW south coast, but every time I log on it asks me to 'update my profile'
    Hmm, no. Net browsing

Everything we do online is tracked and advertisers use it to push ads targetted at our apparent interests.
For example, Homestar seems to have attracted the attention of Russian bride sites.

Not a bookface person, none on phone, no google assistant whatever that is either. I do have an ipone but no browsing or net connection, amazingly I just use it for texts and phonecalls
Home mobile connection (15 K's from town) is normally one bar if it's working so not much is being sent back from there, till they started to run NBN (National broadband on thin copper wire) cable through town we had good signal.

Many of the programmes send data about usage automatically and without telling you to a variety of addresses.

    Long dead.

Packets of information on location and usage are sent back to Google, et al frequently, even when you have location and Data sharing turned off!!!

You can't opt out if you tried, unless you go back to the old tin can and string.
