I found a contender.
The fastest road car in the world revealed - and it's electric - BBC News

"Automobili Pininfarina claims its Battista does 0-62mph in less than two seconds, 186mph in less than 12 seconds, has a top speed of more than 250mph, and does 280 miles on one charge. Its brake horse power (bhp) is equivalent to 1,900, about twice that of a Formula 1 car (a decent-sized Ford Fiesta, Britain's best-selling car, has a bhp of between about 84 and 138)."
Whip lash guaranteed [biggrin]
I've always gotten excited over the Hellcat. The sound that super charger makes combined with the sound of that engine is amazing. [bigsmile1]

I think the Jeep Trackhawk has the same engine:
522kw (about 700hp I think), 868nm, 0-100k, 3.7, St. 1/4 11.6, top speed 289kph!!...A friend of mine owns one, he originally had an SRT, which He traded on the Trackhawk, which He describes as,.."insane"!.....not bad for a big, heavy 4wd.
Pickles.
Don't know if it's same engine. This will do 1/4 in 9.65 & has 840 hp. I think your mates right though. These cars today are "insane" with the power that they are achieving. Even though this is Top Gear I thought the review was pretty good:

Don't they both run a version of the "new" polyspheric Hemi not the real Hemi 426 from the 60's - 70's? The proper Hemi is still available from Mopar Performance in iron or aluminium and capacities up to 540 cubic inches Couple of years ago they offered a 540 Hemi with Roots blower as a street engine "not legal for use in California". Mopar Performance only give indicative power output figures.
I saw an all aluminium Chrysler small block LA engine being built at Van Dyne engineering in Huntington Beach for a sprint car class. Tres Van Dyne told me this engine can be built to produce 800 to 900 hp depending on final spec and fuel. Nascar and open class sprint car SB Chevs produce similar results. Not suggesting you could use one of these on the street. Might be a bit lumpy at idle and cammy under 4000.
