    I've done it, too!

went right over a dune at Kurnell years ago and fell about 15 metres.

Took several hours to recover my Honda XL250, went right in to the back tyre....like a dart into a dart board.... I fell the same but the sand was so soft I was okay. But Icould have been in my mates little Suzuki 540 4wd, who was following and stopped when i disappeared......

    Cheers, GQ

    Captain rightfoot,

No excuses here for me - very soft sand and not enough momentum.

At the start of the beach is wasn't bad going, so 2 high seemed the right choice, but it got softer and softer, and with no opportunity to change down without getting bogged, I had no choice but to keep goingas fast as was safe to do so. (The beach was this soft the whole length) The exit at the beach was blocked by a number of cars watching to see if we would make it, and as I slowed down it just stopped. I engaged low range and locked the diff, but could not drive out. I think if the diff was locked in the first place, or I was in a suitable low range gear, I would have made it. The recent storm that dumped half a metre of very soft sand on the beach didn't help either.
