I thought the new engine was to be a Transit engine. But Noddy's information also sounds correct.
Whatever the story, the Defender as we know it will get a new interior, engine, auto option but otherwise be much the same. Then around 2010 comes the complete replacement based on the Discovery 3 platform.
It is getting the 2.7 Duratec TDCI as currently in the latest Transits... its a bloody great motor, hire a transit from budget and you'll agree.
Now that would be nice :twisted:Quote:

I have heard only good about this motor. However, I have two concerns. Firstly a perusal of the Ford website shows that there are two specs. One for a 6-speed manual which has slightly better power and torque than the TD5 in Defender spec, and the five-speed auto which is less powerful and torquey than the TD5. So it may be a case of less power but an auto. Neither engine is a 2.7, both 2.4. So I assume it'll be bored out.Quote:

But will a 130 be available ? A 90 ? A ute of any sort ?
These are the BIG issues.
As this is a Defender thread and I am fast becoming a fan of them and if budget allowed wouldnt mind parking one against the D3, especially dual cab ute model  . My question is this, are all Defenders manuals and if so, why?? just noticed in my perusals of car sale sites that they are all manual ( I can drive a manual) just curious https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ ,

hi
almost all defenders are manuel, the reason stated was the auto would not take the punishement, however the usa got the very nice v8 auto in teh 90 and there was some limited production of autos for the dutch army, other wise it after market.
There was also the 50th Anniversary 90 which had the 4.0ltr V8 coupled to the ZF 4 speed. 8)
The new Defender (at teh end of the year) will be both manual and auto (6 speed) which I imagine would be awesome for fuel consumption and cruising.
Looks to me this 'last' Defender could be the pick of the bunch with the 6 speed ZF auto....hmmmm....
On paper at least, knowing Land Rover they're bound to stuff something up.Quote:
