From the "Who's sick of the Rain" thread.
Quote: "I hope you don't dry out like here, JD. We have gone from rain to dry, 20+ knot winds"
I started thinking about this. Is the correct format: '20+Knots' or '20Knots+'?
Some of the nautical types on here may be of assistance.
Say it aloud , then you'll see which is correct.
"20+knots". The number is 20+, the "+" is associated with the number, not the unit.
As you have eluded to in your post, knots are generally used as a wind speed measurement at sea.
Wind speeds over land are usually given as km/h but weather aficionados will also use m/s (metres per second).
Why? ..... I don't know. :spudnikwhat:
...because they have choices now
I dont think kmh or m/s were even considered in the weather reports 50yrs ago.....think back to 1970.....
