He had one of very few Leyland Super Hippo 6x6s ever built. He carried fifty drums on it, towed a 6 wheel dog trailer behind it with another 50 drums (the whole outfit on 20.00x20 Michelin radial sand tyres). He would drop the trailer at the edge of the sandhills, and carry fifty drums to our camp, unload them, go back to the trailer, transfer all the drums to the truck, come back to camp, unload, then head back out, picking up the trailer on the way home. Nobody thought anything of it at the time, but it must have been pretty hard yakka for him, especially in mid summer. No helper, no aircon. I can't remember whether he carried a radio, but I doubt it - I would have remembered it I think.

Reading glasses are a fire risk!

Magnified sunlight, reading glasses, paper towels almost leads to house fire say firies - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

Vicki Heydon came home to find a roll of paper towel on her bathroom vanity smouldering
She says she had left a pair of glasses on the windowsill which reflected the sun's light
SA MFS says it is unusual, but not unheard of

I've seen a burnt car seat at a local mechanics caused by sunlight magnified through a full water bottle and acting like a lens.

I have a melted track on the dashboard below the radio. My wife's mirror was sitting on the seat with the magnifying side up.

More likely caused by a beef vindaloo the night before.

We used to use a magnifying glass to start fires when we were kids. And i bet many on here did as well.

One of my brothers once got a fire roaring away on the bedroom windowsill.

That was when we were renting an old wooden Qldlander in Cooparoo that was owned by Clem Jones...

I recon he probably still has the marks on his arse from the caning he got from our father...

Yes, but not in the house or where we were likely to be detected. How else are you supposed to start fires when you aren't allowed matches?

    Hi,
A magnifying glass, a small kid, a shop window full of crackers for sale and a low afternoon sun.
I will leave the rest to your imagination.
    Cheers
