Trivia and other useless but interesting items

I do a backyard patrol/pickup several times a day. Sometimes they are prolific egg-layers! Especially lately while we had 2 guide dogs and I get caught out. My wife tells me I should wear shoes (I also get bits of wire and swarf in my feet when in the garage).

I had that problem too for a while. After doing a job that has left fine slivers laying about that the broom wont shift, I duct-tape several small neo button magnets (or shattered fragments of larger magnets) to the front toe and back heel sole section of a boot for a morning. Has to be on the sole section of the boot otherwise they're too far from floor. Every now and then I put my foot up on the barrel bin and with a rag, simply wipe the swarf and slivers of steel off the duct-tape. It works a treat. It also 'finds' small 1-2mm drill bits that have fallen off the drill bench into cracks of the concrete floor on occasion.

My podiatrist keeps telling me I should wear shoes! I tell her that humans evolved to wear bare feet!

I find swarf off the workshop floor the worst (after catheads).

My Professional advice being a former Fridgie, is to take heed of 'er indoors concerns, stop being a wannabee hippy & get some shoes on your feet. I'm sure my Venerable Colleagues would agree.

A win win, no swarf & & no dog crap between the toes & no indoors harping on about it & you may not be the oldest codger in the Artificial Limb Fitting Room.

ahhh I think we called those "catheads" , 3 corner jacks, they hurt like hell when stepped on one and drove us mad as kids repairing punctures on our bikes.

I grew up in far western NSW , the things were everywhere.

btw , Orange, Parkes, Bathurst , Dubbo are not western NSW, they are central NSW. not directed at you JD , just a bugbear of mine

Its that time of the year for those that own old houses as it gets cold and the rodents start moving in. We assumed that the smell we had been enduring was from under the floorboards until the girls got curious and found a rather ripe and flyblown rat in one of the hallway cupboards. The rat blocks from last year are clearly still working......
