One too many roosters in the hen house.
The last batch of fertilised eggs the daughter bought turned out to have five roosters and three hens.
Roosters are a bit surplus to requirements - its a tough life for roosters - and just turn the backyard into a chook-fighting arena.
The previous time this happened the surplus roosters proved to be delicious. [emoji3]
This time we have already given away three good-looking young Wyandote roosters from the last batch to people on the Sunny Coast who seem happy with them.
One of the 2 remaining might soon be next to go. Fortunately for them, they don't crow much or they might have already gone to a better place.
There seems to be a thriving chook-swapping scene happening up here that the daughter has tapped into.
Sneaky meetings are arranged in quiet village car parks where cardboard boxes making interesting noises are hurriedly exchanged.
