Mate of mine flies helicopters in the Kimberly, this is what happened to one of the other pilots.
There are two(of many) rules for chopper pilots, never leave a machine below the high tide mark, and always make sure the emergency pack is on board before leaving.
After dropping off a tinny, and a group of fishermen/fisherwomen,the pilot left the machine below the high tide water level.
On return, both batteries in the machine were flat.
The result was one written off chopper, and a long wait in a croc infested, sand fly infested, remote area while waiting for a search party.
