    Thats about $870 each?

Doesn't seem like a whole lot to me. I havent seen VW Australias books but is that enough of a sting for them?

I guess it's based on the cost of having VW reprogram their ECUs, plus damages.

Not sure how ‘cheap’ they are but their value decreased quite dramatically after this all went down. Not sure if prices have recovered or not but there would have been plenty of people who lost more than normal depreciation because of this - even on vehicles not directly effected.

I don't see the point of a payout, its not like the owners would know any different if they weren't told about it ?

Given the vehicle exhaust emissions contribute to the deaths of more people than are killed on road accidents, I think it's clear VW should be heavily penalised for trying to poison us all. Glad to see that LR diesels seem to be much cleaner.
